Default Colt Dragoon

Walked into a store in Jacksonville while visiting.....used to do some work with these guys. Learned that one older gent who I dealt with had passed away...would have liked to have a shot at some of the hundreds of pieces he had...but I digress.

In the case was a Colt Dragoon. Apparently made in the 80s ....as a reintroduced piece....I was sorely tempted at $600....but I just walked away...would have been fun to shoot for sure

My understanding us that the Colt Reintroduced cap and ball revolvers were made of Italian parts but assembled in Hartford. Nothing like the value or history of an1840's or 50's Colt!

I have 3 of the Walker Spaghetti Specials, and one repro powder flask. I had a misunderstanding on the size of my charge and ended up with a 75grain charge behind a .457 RB. All they did was strip out and shot about 6 to8 inches at 25 yards. After better research I did 55 gr FFg charges and the were around 4 inches at 25 yards. The best I ever did was a "Target" load of 40 gr FFFg and 2 ox yoke wads, that was 2.5" out of one of the guns and only did it one time.

You should be able to find used Spaghetti Dragoons for less than $300 and I'm thinking much closer to $200.

Have fun making clouds!

Ivan

There were a few different series of Colt Black Powder cap and ball revolvers (2nd Gen "C" and "F" series and 3rd Gen) and they were exceptionally well fitted and finished.

This set of articles and discussion on the Colt Forum is one of the more complete references I've found for them:

Are the Colt Signature series Black Powder guns considered "Real Colts" ?

I personally think the 1970s era 2nd Generation "C" series and the 1980s 3rd generation revolvers are exceptionally well finished and are arguably the best reproduction cap and all revolvers ever made.

If you find one for $800 in excellent condition it's a deal, and if you found one for $600 it's a steal.

Please send me a PM with the shop's name so I can follow up on this.

I bought a Colt 1851 Navy in 1975. Very well made gun. I bought a Colt 1st Model Dragoon in the 1980s. Big mistake. I was so disappointed at the lack of quality that I wrote a nasty letter to the President of Colt.
