Some months ago id asked here if you could cut off that silly edition on the end of the MP-40-ATI prodced knock-off of the WWII famed German sub machine gun. Well, you can-BUT you have to fill out some sort of forms through the ATF-and I think pass a background check.

The German MP-40:

The American Tactical Imports knock-off:

I cant wait till they make a knock-off of one of these:

It was being talked about on the radio-and I didnt hear the full story. Anyway, I THINK they said you can cut the barrel extention off by filling out forms through the ATF-and passing a background check. I heard no mention of fees but suppose there will be.

Anyway-this is for both-the ATI MP-40 with fixed "stock" and with working folding stock.

Reason im mentioning this-is because as recently wrinkled, the full version---though okayed for production by the ATF--is stalled due to some stupid thing being held up by certain politicians.:mad:

Yes, you can cut the barrel.

It requires a tax stamp from BATF after filing the paperwork, fingerprint cards, and $200. Then waiting something like 8 to 12 months for the background check approval. Once you get your approved forms back, then and only then can you cut the barrel shorter. You also have to have the receiver engraved per BATF specifications with the manufacturer who did the work, in this case you.

You can also have an SOT - Special Occupation Tax - manufacturer alter the gun for you, and transfer the gun back to you via similar forms, but the gun will be in the SOT''s possession for 8 to 12 months while it awaits approval. Though the SOT can alter it at any time. In this case the SOT engraves the receiver with his information.

All of this assumes that having an SBR (Short Barreled Rifle) is legal in your state, county or city. Many states or localities do not allow them.

MP40's did have suppressors issued for them, but their use was extremely rare. Somewhere buried on my drive is a photo of a captured one being used by a Soviet soldier.
