Pros and cons of an AR-22 rifle

Strongly recommend the Tippmann line. My M4-22 Micro Elite pistol is fantastic. I have never shot a Smith 15-22 and I'm sure they're fine shooters, but in holding and manipulating one (in a store), it felt a bit too lightweight and less solid than the Tippmanns.

I briefly had a Colt (Umarex) AR22. It felt cheap so I bought a CMMG conversion kit and put in a 223/556 upper I had laying around. It’s now a
dedicated 22lr upper. Works great with most ammo, especially Aguilla 36 gr. Simple to swap back to 223/556.

I'm not sure of the brand or the platform, but I bought my grandson a semi-auto .22 magnum. It has those round 10-round magazines. All I know about it is it's black and I think is made South of the Equator. It might be a Mossberg. The magazines are stupid (We mock what we don't understand!) but dumping 10 rounds is cheaper than 30. That .22 mag is a nice cartridge; I don't think 100 yards is too much to ask of it.

A dedicated .22 upper and Black Dog mags are the way to go. I have a Taccom barrel/bcg inside a Seekins upper. Same kind of set up as a CMMG I think. The collar is different though. Very accurate. Have shot it in numerous matches. Pros would be the ability to swap uppers and lowers from rimfire to cf. Cons would be all the aftermarket upgrades that are available for a $$$ price. I bought an M4 .22 from Colt but I haven't fired it because of the retinal hemorrhage I had in my right eye that put my long gun shooting on hold. I've always thought that .22 military trainer rifles were kind of cool. I picked up a Springfield 1922 .22 rifle many years ago and a friend once said that you could shoot it all day and not heat up the barrel at all.

Many years ago I special ordered a CMMG multi caliber lower with a dedicated 22 upper. I liked it so much I stamped it as a SBR. Got on a retro kick last year, and changed it up some. Still using the CMMG lower, barrel, and bolt.

CMMG Kit in a Colt AR-15 Carbine. Not terribly accurate and the kit carbons up after 70 or 80 rounds of .22 LR. Still, it's a handy trainer.IMG_3509.JPG
