Anyone else see this ad cycle through on the left side of the forum? I should know better, but I needed a laugh today, and I got one...

They are selling some sort of rail mounted laser claiming that it will turn your handgun into a military grade sniper rifle, with such amazing accuracy that it can hit targets up to 100 yards away. Yes, 100 freaking yards!!!!

To add to the product's mystique, here is my favorite image of it in action from the company's own website:

NOTE: The clearly terrible Photoshop job showing the laser mounted upside down on this revolver that has no rail.

Seems like a real quality product, I should buy three...

I don't need that thing to get hits at 100 yds. I have a 4" Ruger GP100 that I can ring steel torso silhouettes at 100 yds all day long. I have a 586 with 8 3/8" bbl that I can get head shots from a sandbag out to 100+ yds all day long. Both wear the factory sights.

I'm right there with you, I was expressing sarcasm with regards to this "laser". When I think sniper rifle, typically I'm expecting distances of 500 to 1000 yards and beyond, so the claim they are making seems absurd and a bit funny to me. The whole website starts with a story about a US Army soldier who apparently could hit any target at any distance with his pistol, and somehow this miraculous device gives him the power of a sniper rifle to hit targets out to 100 yards with ease....

I will make no claim about being a great marksman, and don't often get a chance to shoot handguns on a range longer than 50 yards, however the few times a year that I do, I find no problem finding paper at that distance with any of my revolvers, iron sights only, hence my finding the claim a little absurd. Further, no matter what distance, I have never found a laser to be of my liking, and often wonder if it serves more to evoke a fear response in those on the wrong end of the muzzle, rather than as a practical aiming device....

Don't buy your optics from a gas station or sketchy Internet ad!

I already have a "sniper" handgun. And I don't need no stinking laser.

Just remember this: every time you click on one of those ads the ad holder sends Lee some money-which is a good thing! :D
I'm glad to have helped a great cause while getting a good laugh then. I do click on the ads from time to time, though most are not this absurd in their claims, rather an offering of stupid photos or something like that, usually of no relation to the ad's headline. So if it helps the forum thrive, then I may be more apt to click away from now on...

Also, I feel like I see this product listed alot on Amazon and eBay along with all of the other budget optics, and i guess I don't see the point to it. As others have pointed out, it's generally useless at 100 yards anyway, and useless in general on a bright sunny day. I feel like it's true home ought to be on some teen's tacticool airsoft or paintball gun, rather than on a real one. The picture with my original post should be indicative of the level of firearms understanding that the seller has, and should be clear to the purchaser that it is not even worth the $37 (IIRC) price tag.

All a laser sight does is show how unsteady I really am. Use the $$$ to by more ammo. I can eventually hit something at long range with a handgun.
