This Guy is reported to be an Apache carrying an Evans Rifle.
I had never heard of the Evans, which was designed by a Maine Dentist!
In a unique caliber. Evans 44 Long- Short. Makes me wonder where does he get more Ammo?
What that’s revolver? Looks like the rounds on his Left side are smaller than his Right side. Maybe Revolver ammo.

Many years ago I had an Evans but never fired it. it had an Archimedes screw magazine in the butt, and held a large number of cartridges. I have not seen a cartridge for it. I bought it at a small gun shop on North High Street in Columbus Ohio, I don’t remember paying much for it, and I traded it off fairly quickly. I also bought a Volcanic pistol cheap at that same gun shop. I also traded it off quickly. I was fairly stupid about antique guns at the time. I mainly bought interesting stuff that I could afford, even if I didn’t know anything about it.

Doing a quick search, Evens, Winchester, Remington and some small companies all made ammo for it until WWI. !5,000 rifles is a worthwhile market.

Tom Selleck movie - crossfire trail. The oatmeal guy, Wilfred somebody or other. His character carried an Evans. He said he couldn't shoot real good so he needed something that held a lot of cartridges. I think the Evans held 40 (?).

I was looking at how to make new ammo. 303 British/444 Marlin Trim to length turn rim and load. I saw several listings for shot shells in the long version, That would be similar to a 410 1/2 ounce load, but no shot cup and very scattered pattern (short range), maybe good for Grouse and Prairie Chickens. (nobody said so but maybe Magtech brass 410 hells with reduced length & rims)

While not interchangeable with 44-40, the Long was more powerful. Some loads were "Express", meaning a light bullet with extra Black Powder, in this case up to 100 grains!
