New Colt M16A1 Reissue

All I can say it that the M16A1's at Camp Lejeune had the birdcage flash suppressor. When I reported to 2nd Battalion, 12th Marines in June of 1980, all their M16A1's had the 3 prong flash suppressor. Go figure.

I don’t think colt makes em. In any case, it’s a limited edition. I doubt anybody had the intent to gouge veterans.

I see nothing to indicate they aren't made by Colt so not sure what you're basing your comment on. How do you "gouge" someone on a voluntary purchase? No one has to buy one, Vietnam era veteran or not. I realize you weren't the member who first brought up the topic of gouging veterans, I'm just saying.

US Ordnance is manufacturing these under liscense for Colt.

Interesting. I just saw where it listed Colt as the manufacturer. I guess since it's a clone so to speak it really doesn't matter if Colt makes it or not. I'd kinda like one but it's not a need.

I wouldn't mind having one also. But I'd be inclined to spend that money on old sp1's

I kinda remember an ad in Shotgun News maybe 20 years ago where Century Arms was selling AR's that were made on parts kits they got from someplace. They were essentially the same thing as these retros at least as far as appearance. I wanna say the were selling for around $600. Probably can't hardly find a parts kit for that price now.

Well had the TROY SON TAY RAID MODEL.And just sold three original SP'1 for $7,500.00 At SAR show last year. So getting this at 2500 was a doable hit. Knew Stoner,Sullivan And Dorchester back in the late 70's. So DON'T need new schooling on history or how they all work,OR Variation, Six year Corps with many models helped also.I can write volumes. Why bother.I bought one, just like when I had the Harrington and Richardson models and Hydra /Matics. And Original AR-10'S I sold to Reed Knight.

It was just nice to see Colt try and do something. Stumble and fail and fall and get back up again to try again....I know the true value, And I don't care. Just something nice to remember the old days.OF HIGH ADVENTURE.

And it is true in life 90% of the people you meet will never do what you can or have done in life.

Just think how boring it would be if we all had the same stuff.
Brownells also makes a nice repro shooter. This has a been a fun post. and glad to be back.RON K.

Hardware small world sold a 65 minty new all original at the SAR show Along with a new in box TROY they lasted one hour on the table, and a 73 and a 80 model later on.Nice rifle and Original Edgewater buffer there.

Most had them long swapped out by today.
RON K.

Ordered this pair also. FN one of 200 special ed.>Long sold out from FN LAST YEAR. I better end it now or the flack will get high of comments about these. ha ha.

Because of career fields I carried a pistol more than an M16 and was in the rear with the gear not on the tip of the spear.
I like a good AR but if it's not a flat top I don't even think about it.

Have a flat top and can’t even look at it. It’s under some dust in the closet I think

I don't know what wherewithal you have to say that but what do you think the problem was?

The ammunition. The problem was well documented. The ordnance dept. switched from the IMR powder that the rifle was designed around to a ball type propellant which caused a host of problems.

On paper they met the same specs, but ball burns at a vastly different rate and changed the timing of the opening of the bolt

All good info here and good pics, And when people complain about price, if they built one what would they sell for?Colt of course has to make money to pay the employees that 25 to 30 buck a hour wage,

they are not just slapping parts laying around and ten buck a hour workers. And they don't have some hidden warehouse of new fifty year old new parts laying around. And even the stuff we left behind in Nam has been tossed around the world and beat to ****.Over 25 years ago had the chance to check some of it out.And most was shot and worn at that time.

Even cases of new in crate was no longer new in crate tested trained on and 50% anodized finish left.It was great Colt did this now.And in twenty years they will probably do the Afghan /Iraq commemorative M-4 for those vets. Who will be hitting way over age 50.

Sure these are not for everybody and that's because everybody won't get or have one.I am not like everybody else. And neither is this rifle for everybody. It will have its own following. When I sold those last three the new buyers were very happy to get them. And had no problem with the $2,500 tag. Just like when a guy gets his TROY or Brownells. or builds his own.

If happy nothing else matters. On a personal point pull out of 4 hour BIG C surgery being told 50% might not make it. And wake up. and you are happy. Get one of these and be happy again.

Heck they can even buy a low cost S&W AR-15. it won't be a Pony.
But they can still blast away. RON K.

P.S. As one said another Zombie post brought up again. Well the controversy never ended.

A friend in town who I talked to today said he has a new in box transferable n.i.b. Colt M16A1 if I want {which is a exact match to the new Colt offering in Semi. }that he bought back in the 80's.

If I wanted just come over with $25 grand cash.Nice thought. but was easier to cut the check for $2,500.00, and have another $22,500.00 left over for other guns.

he only wants to sell it to make the huge profit now.It only cost him around $2,500.00 at the time. but it has sat in the box unfired for over 30 years.

My first full auto 16 cost me around $895.00 when dealers were allowed to buy direct from Colt two samples.back in the late 70's..
> $895 1979 TODAY ABOUT $3200
because of Paper no longer allowed anymore May 19,1986 Jammed Freedom forever.
Or we could still buy these from Colt today like the retro models for around the same price. The nice History that would have been.

now still get to do it on the cheap. $2,500.00 wise move $25,000 today not so much.. RON K.
