Default Short bellicose sixguns with an attitude

In an old gun article Leroy Thompson referred to the 3 1/2" Model 27 as "bellicose". I thought that was a great way to describe this gun. Here's a couple other under 4" sixguns (and one fivegun) in the same category. Let's see yours! That's Model 13-3, 1917 Colt, and a Bulldog .44 along with my 27-2.

My 1917 is on the other thread, but here's my 65 and my 696. Both 3", so they qualify, right?

scored a nearly new 19-3 at a gun show today.-sw-19-3-jpg

Perfectly apt description Wyatt.
Strangely, none of the antonyms of "bellicose" seem to fit at all. Those such as "calm, passive, easy going and peaceful" ??

Veering a bit from your thread intent, could we return to a further discussion of those "sawed-off" targets on your 27 ?

I think I recall you getting those some time back; in a multi-trade perhaps ?
At any rate, I think they look excellent on that "bellicose" revolver of yours, and would welcome a more thorough picture exam of the cut, and the follow-up refinish.
Not to say I would have the nerve to cut up a nice set of diamond targets, but if I could get those results I might.
Thanks

You forced me to break out the dictionary! Okay, google.

I think these fit the definition! The DS is my EDC.

Default Maybe a Jovino would do?

Here is the epitome of the short barrel revolver (my opinion). A Jovino 25-2.

I had bought 5 pairs of grips for $20 at a gun shop. Turns out one were Farrant's and I sold them here. Then I had forum member Gatorbaitor recheckered the cut down cokes that were in the group. They looked really sad but felt excellent. He did a fantastic job making them look like they do now.
A 3" 624 was posted above. That's a perfect example of the type gun I'm talking about. Sure a lot of great guns posted here. That well used 2" Model 15 is something I dream of encountering. And one that looks just as used as that one.

I like the term bellicose and it is befitting for a 3.5" 27. However, I'm not big enough to use an N frame for combat work.

There are a lot of guns befitting of the term bellicose. Although, I think it's the shooter, more than the gun, that makes it "bellicose". Heck, Jim Martin will make a SAA quite bellicose.

I purchased this gun for "combat", more my size. Fitted with Nill combat grips, and training to point shoot. Haven't mastered it yet, but I am no longer dependent on sights in most cases. This particular Python has a shorter than usual hammer spur. Just a random part variation that occurred in '72 from my research. Really fitting for a snubby though and glad I lucked into it. My '75 has a much longer spur.

The following pics were after my first "point shooting" range trip practice.

Those shortened grips turned out great. I even liked them before you had them freshened up.

I think my 3" .41mag 28-2 fits in this category-

However, even though it has a 4" barrel, I think the Crowbar is pretty much the definition of the bellicose revolver-

Yep, a Jovino gun epitomizes what I'm talking about. And the Lew Horton 24-3s and the short 624 pictured earlier here.

Well, I have a Bulldog that has a 2.5" barrel, but personally I thing my 3rd Model .44 hand ejector fits the definition better.

A little late to the thread, but short revolvers with an attitude? Yeah, might have some....

(Click the pictures for a larger version.)
In the S&W category:

Top left, shortened and round butted 1950 Military in .45ACP
Bottom left, Model 325 Night Guard in .45ACP
Top middle, Model 29-3 in .44 Magnum
Bottom middle, Model 24-3 in .44 Special
Top right, Model 696 in .44 Special
Bottom right, Model 27-2 in .357 Magnum (only caliber here that doesn't start with a 4)

In the non-S&W category:

Top left and bottom left, Rossi 720 twins in .44 Special
Top middle, Taurus Model 441 in .44 Special
Bottom middle, Taurus 431 in .44 Special
Top right, Rossi R441 in .44 Magnum
Bottom right, Charter Arms Bulldog in .44 Special

And lets not forget the old timers:

Top left, Merwin Hulbert Pocket Army in .44-40
Bottom left, British Bulldog in .44 Bulldog
Top Right, American Double Action in .44 Bulldog (a little long with a 4" barrel but makes up for it in attitude)
Bottom Right, American Bulldog in .44 Bulldog

"Hec Ramsy" TV wesetrn show starring Richard Boone.
"Hec" used a cut down Colt SA. In the first show, bandits held up the stagecoach "Hec" was traveling in . The bandit leader examined "Hec" Colt and remarked, " What a way to ruin a good sixshooter"!
