I have seen a polished stainless Colt Custom Shop Model 1911 in .38 Super, or, correctly, Super .38. The SN is a 5-alpha, 4-numeric similar to S&W SNs since ca. 1984. The alpha characters are ELCEN. I have been told it may ba a Mexican Police contract gun, but from the custom shop I don't even want to guess.

Is there any significance to the ELCEN pre-fix, or is it just like S&W SNs, means nothing?

I think the ELCEN actually denotes the special run it was. It stands for El Centauro. A custom shop creation and I don't think for any police contract.

Someone more into 1911s will have to chime in.

I have one, and the gun is not even a custom shop product. It just says custom on the gun. It does come in the blue box with white sleeve though. Very nice looking bright stainless gun but nothing custom about it.
