The CeraKote debate is over, US Military says "NO" to this ****!
Military decided "Cerakote" is not fit for Military guns! There is another Article which i cant find showing how bad the CeraCrap wore in a few weeks of use and now Colt wont use the CeraCrap anymore and switched the finish to complete the Contract! This should prove CeraCrap is just Junk!
Cerakote’s big fail? USMC returns M45A1 Close Quarters Battle Pistols to Colt – rifleshooter.com
Beretta also is now making the M9A3 in Italy mainly due to USA Quality or the Lack of it!

The Marines returned approx 2,000 M45s due to problems with the CeraKote on them coming off.
Some guns even jammed because of it. Colt bought back the entire lot, changed over to Ion Bond and reissued them. It cost Colt quite a bit. But that's the contracting business. The product must perform to spec and it didn't. That's how we all wound up with a chance to own an actual issue USMC CQB M45. It is also what created the most rapidly appreciating gun of any type I've ever seen.
In March they sold on Gunbroker for $1250 a piece. Now they are bringing $5-8000 a piece. And this is for a beat up well used pistol. Nice piece of history but folks seem to be crazy for these things.

Not being critical, but trying to be complete. This is old news in the sense that this was discovered many months ago or perhaps even last year. Colt changed the contract to ion bond, and has even been using the ion bond finish on its commercial M45s for many months.

Very True, but its mainly been kept Hush-Hush! Some think the CeraKote/Junk Industry is wanting to keep it quiet! Ionbond is a great finish which is what Sig uses on many pistols!

9 months late to the party, I am! Would have bought one of those clunkers straight away, had I known. Got a CeraKoted and an Ionbond commercial version last year. Have shot the Ionbond M45a1 quite a bit, it's been well worth the price. (A little under US$1500, IIRC.) It does now sport a short trigger, but that's a personal "problem"!

1. Old news.
2. Anyone that has a Cerakoted gun and carries/uses it to any appreciable degree knows the stuff doesn't hold up well. It's the best of the spray and bake coatings but that doesn't mean much.

Bingo. At the end of the day, Cerakote is just paint. It may be pretty good paint, but it's still just paint.
I'm old and traditional. Painted guns do nothing for me. I have no use whatsoever for Cerakote or any other gun paint.

I like a gun to look like a GUN ...
I agree 100%. I grew up shooting guns that looked like guns. None of the "colors" either.

I'm not too thrilled by paint on firearms. But I still think of Suncorite 259 and Enfields.

I have a cero-coated SW99 .45 slide that has held up well. There are some shiny areas on the forward edge of the slide from holster use, but that's about it. And I don't carry it all or even most of the time, it's mainly a bedside gun.

Often, when becoming aware of such virulent comments on persons, places, or things, my reaction is, "why did you come here to tell me this" ?

Had a Beretta 92fs fall out the back of a car (not a good day) that looked like it got hit with #8 shot. Had it redone in cerakote. Looked good and it held up better than other Beretta's with the factory bruniton finish.

This isn't about you, this is about warfighter's needing lower signature firearms to do their job. The M110 SASS also had a FDE applied finish along with untold thousands of MK12, MK18, M4, M16 and others that were rattle canned during the GWOT. There are better finishes than paint, the SCAR 17 comes to mind, but until they move away from black finished weapons there will be a need for a way to recolor. And MARSOC has shelved their .45's and is using Glock 19's now anyway.
