Sgt. Schultz carried one on Hogan's Hero's! The 6.5x55 is truly an incredible cartridge........
I have a 96 Swedish Mauser and a Remington 700 that I looked for over 20 years. The Remington will shoot 3 shot groups at 100 yards that I can easily cover with a dime.....over and over again!

The one in the picture has been sporterized, with at least the stock being replaced. Can't tell much more from the one picture.
Looks like quality work, most likely a great shooter.

My granddad had it built back in the 70’s. The stock is very nice. I believe it’s been reblued. I’m sure it shoots great. I’m going to get some dies and start reloading for it. I think it’s of 1915 vintage.

Nice, smooth actions. Not as strong as a Springfield or Mauser, but strong enough with loads it was engineered for.
I have always been fascinated with how you can drop a handfull of loose ammo in the loading gate, snap it shut, and the gun sorts them all out by aligning them all and stacking them to where the rims of the cartridges don't get caught on each other when being fed into the chamber.

I thought my diabetic eyes were bad so I thought I needed scopes on every rifle. When I purchased my first 1907 Carl Gustaf Swede Mauser in 6.5mm x 55mm and sighted it in using new s&w 131gr so ammo she’s shooting 1 1/2” groups with iron sights at 100 yds. There very accurate. And easy on the shoulder too.

They hunt moose with the 6.5X55 cartridge in Scandinavian countries yet the recoil of the round is almost pleasant. I own 12 Swedish Mausers and it amazes me how good a round they shoot.

Here's a couple of sniper rifles. Both will do m.o.a. easily if I do my part. A very easy caliber for reloading too. That usually brings out the best in them and allows you to build a round that is perfect for your rifle. With a Krag I would seriously consider this because they do not handle all modern factory rounds well.

I laugh every time I see a comment like this about the Remington Model 700 in 6.5x55.

It was about a dozen years ago that I found a M700 6.5x55 in real nice shape at the local gun shop (Alaska). Of course, I had to take it home.

That was one of the worst-shooting, most inconsistent rifles I had ever owned. I didn’t glass-bed it, but tried some of the tricks of varying action screw pressure, temporarily adding a shim to float the barrel, etc. I finally got tired of messing with it and traded it in on something else.

A few months later, I was visiting with one of the regulars in the shop and we watched a guy pick up that same M700 off the rack. The guy I was visiting with said to me “I sure hope that guy has better luck than I did with that rifle. It just wouldn’t shoot.” We had a good laugh when I told him I had the same experience with the same gun.

That particular Model 700 must have been a “Friday afternoon special” as the others I have owned were all good shooters, and another friend had a M700 6.5x55 that was very accurate. This one gun just had its own set of problems.

I believe the 6.5x55 is an under-appreciated cartridge. After a lot of searching, I was able to find a Sako Model 75 in 6.5x55, and mine is definitely a keeper.

Certainly a nicer looking rifle than the US variant.
