After selling off some guns to finance truck repairs, I find myself lacking in 9mm pistols. I'm about at the point where I'm ready to start looking at replacements. BTW: no particular hurry. I'm still recovering financially.
I do still have my Hi-Power and 92fs for full size pistols. So I'm thinking I'd like to go with a compact. The problem is that I don't think I can find what I want.

Here's what I have in mind:
caliber- 9mm
Small size able to fit in a coat pocket easily.
DA/SA with a hammer.
A single stack mag would be acceptable.
NO PLASTIC! An alloy frame would be good, but steel works.

Does anybody even make something like this anymore?

Edited to add:
I'd like to keep the price reasonable. Hopefully no more than $400-500. But maybe more if I find just the right one.

It's going to be hard to find a 9mm Luger handgun that fits the bill. You may have to go to 9x18 Mak or 9mm Short.
If you had to compromise in one area, what would it be, frame material, caliber or DA/SA trigger?

for DA/SA, single stack, alloy (used market, most of these are discontinued)
SIG P239
S&W 3913 or CS9
Beretta 92 L Type M
HK P9S
SIG P225/P6
HK P7M8
Detonics Pocket 9
Kimber Solo Carry (not DA/SA)
Bond Arms Bullpup9 (not DA/SA)
Kahr MK9 (not DA/SA)
SIG P938 (not DA/SA)
Remington R51 (not recommended)
Rohrbaugh R9 (not DA/SA)
Springfield XD9E (DA/SA but poly frame)

If you can live with 9mm Mak or .380 and must have a metal frame there's lots of mid/small pistols like
FEG PA-63, Walther PPK, CZ 82/83, Bersa Thunder, HK HK4, Radom P-64, etc

If you're into used firearms, I think the Astra A75 or the South African Republic Arm RAP401* clone fits what you're looking for:

-All steel
-9mm
-Hammer
-DA/SA w/a decocker can be carried cocked and locked
-Small but heavy -- A75L is the lightweight version
-8 round single stack

*Better finished clone I have a RAP401

The bad news is that they haven't been made in 20 years, but magazines are easy to find.

If that's not available, I'd go with a SiG P225/P6 or the accept the extra width and get a P228/P229. If not that, a Cz75 compact or PCR...

If you're willing to consider out-of-production, one of my personal favorites fits your requirements to one degree or another. Uncommon and admittedly not beloved by all, I remain a devotee of the not often seen Walther P5 Compact.

That said, many of the above-mentioned models are excellent and well worth considering.

Is it a strict requirement to you that it be a brand new/currently produced model?

Not necessarily. But it would make finding one easier. Trying to find a specific used gun can sometimes be difficult. Years ago I had a 3914 which I now regret selling. But I know those are getting hard to find and darned expensive.

If you had to compromise in one area, what would it be, frame material, caliber or DA/SA trigger?
I can live with a SA. I'm an old 1911 guy anyway. But I would have to get past my dislike for 9mm 1911s.

Let me add this. I'm not much of a 9mm guy. In semi-autos, I much prefer a .45acp. If something smaller is required, I have plenty of .38s and .380s I can and have used.
However, I do like to keep a few 9s around simply due to ammo availability and them being so common. Truth is that I'd probably not carry this gun. I just like to have the choice available.
So let me add one more criteria: I don't want to spend a whole lot of money.

Like I said, right now I'm just looking at possibilities. Might be a while before I actually buy.

EEA Witness Steel Compact
Action: double/single action, semi-automatic, Barrel Length: 3.60"
Caliber: 9mm, Capacity: 14+1,Frame Description: stainless steel
Grips: black synthetic,Manufacturer: EAA, Weight: 30.0 oz
Manufacturer Part Number: 999099, UPC: 741566111198
SKU: 15619
Also there is the Baby TA-90- A gun that myself and 2 friends fired a lot, 1000 rds first time out. In 3 years we put upwards of 10,000 rds through it, and last I knew, 2015 it was still running fine. Meets the criteria that you wanted, numerous ones on auction sites. I had forgotten about it, and just started bidding on one now!! Just realized I have no accurate, double stack, steel 9mm, well within the price range that you listed. When I win one I will post it. Be Safe,

Sig just reintroduced the P225 but at a Sig retail price - can be found on the used market, mostly European police turn-ins (the P6 I think).

A small but wide 6906 would also fit your criteria. SA/DA and no hammer spur but a grooved top to (very carefully) cock manually.

Well not still being made but you can't go wrong if you can find a S&W 3913 or another of the 39xx series...

Edit: Saw your post #9 maybe a small/compact 9mm 1911 style ??????? If you got the $$$$$$s Wilson Combat makes a couple.

No. Next question . . . ?

I was going to suggest the CZ 2075 Rami as well, but at least 3 other people seem to have beat me to it. Maybe the Universe is trying to tell you something? You gotta listen to those little voices...

Sig 938, if you can accomplish both of the above. Otherwise meets your additional qualifications . . .

Muss beat me to it, the 938 is a great smallish EDC 9mm.

Slightly heavier (OK, alot heavier) is one of my favorites in the single stack 9mm line that I've not seen mentioned.

HK PSP or P7's are great pistols. Slight learning curve on the training end with the squeeze-cock mechanics.
My PSP came in late 90's/early 2000's when German Police were dumping them and many were on our market in the ~$400 range.
Fantastic shooters. Very low bore axis. Often said mine shoots like a rifle.

Anyway, lots of good choices mentioned.
