I've been developing some interest in possibly getting a 2011 type. I've never actually shot a 1911 in 9mm. I would be looking at a sub-compact like the new Springfield I read about recently, although I haven't seen one in person.

Unfortunately the 2011s I have seen don't feel that great in my hand and I don't have a small hand. I consider my hands to be medium large although for most gloves I need at least an extra large and often an XXlarge. I don't think most gloves are sized for U.S. males.

I get that a 2011 isn't going to feel as nice as a single stack 1911. But come on, my little Hellcat holds a bunch of 9mm and is almost too small. Well it is too small enjoyable target shooting or on duty LE carry but that's not what they're for anyhow.

I like my officers size 1911s but it would be nice to have a bit more capacity. Somebody needs to make an increased capacity 1911 or 2011 but not get so carried away even if they lose a little capacity.

Should I just give up and stick with my officers size 1911s and Hellcat?

Edit to add: Maybe I haven't looked at the right ones but the 2011s I've handled didn't have triggers that were at all impressive as compared to most 1911s. I don't know if that's normal with the type, is it?

find a Canadian made Para-ordnance Warthog... not 9mm.. but felt great.. buddy has one, he collects Para-ordnance DS 1911's... I now have 2 because of him.. the older Canadian ones are solid... usa built are not as good... Remington ruin them

Not sure which ones you handled, so I can’t speak on them, but the 2011 is not one that can be done on the cheap. Staccato is the base and they go up from there.

A good bit different than a 2011

I recently purchased a Springfield Prodigy Compact with the 4.25" barrel and the full size grip frame. I haven't been able to shoot her yet, but yes, the frame is beefy. It's definitely growing on me the more I hold it. Feels better in my hand than a Glock and it has the "right" grip angle.
However, I never liked the subcompact 1911/2011 idea. Too many other options that are better, IMHO. For subcompact duty I rely on my Sig 365. Smaller grip, points well, decent trigger. I shoot a full size 1911 a little better, but it's not a great difference at 15 yds.
But that is also why I have concealment holsters for my Sig and the Springer lives in a Comp-Tac. And the trigger is excellent.

I'd take either of these as a first choice...

My favorites right now are Staccatos. I shoot the XL and XC but there are different sizes you may prefer. You might like the grip better on the CZ T2 Blue SA and the Laugo Alien - both shoot as well as the Staccatos (seems to me) with different ergonomics. There are several great choices out there - good luck with your search.

Do all those posting here know what a 2011 is? I saw Para DS suggested and now a picture of a DW DWX.

Thanks for the responses.
Well I went to another well stocked LGS. Tried out several in my hand. The Staccato felt the best in my hand, although they didn't have the Springfield compact. Besides the Staccato is pricy, although not near as pricy as that Infinity which is beyond my means.

I think I've decided I don't like the 2011s. At least not for a CCW. They just give up too much ergonomics as compared to 1911s. Maybe I'll just try to find a way to carry spare mags that are more accessible. Being in Southern FL where I never wear any cover garment does restrict things a bit.

Another thing, I don't like buying guns from Turkey and a lot of nicer looking options are coming from there. I don't doubt their quality. I just don't like buying guns from countries that don't really like us and by doing so helping to build their arms industry that will eventually be used against us or our friends. I'm happy to buy their olives and nuts, etc. I'm shocked at the amount of arms from Turkey being sold. My concern obviously is shared by many others.

I had a Staccato P and it was very problematic. After it came back from the factory it was flawless but I just didn’t connect with it and off it went. I have a good friend that carries one on duty, it runs perfectly and is very accurate.

I had a Prodigy 5” that came out a year or so after the initial batch was introduced. It was 1 of 4 the shop had, best trigger and very smooth slide/frame and well fit. I made 4 changes to it: EGW slide release as the factory was too small for my stubby thumb to hit, front night sight, Dawson 1 piece tool less guide rod and an EGW metal mainspring housing. It predominantly was a range/home/truck gun. I got talked out of it by another friend and it’s ticking along just fine.

My range/store is hosting Springfield Armory Days Friday and Saturday-I’d like to check out the Compact Prodigy, we have a 15rd mag limit so that’s one appeal even though I have other 15rd pistols.

I have a Staccato P and a bunch of regular 1911’s. Having used 1911’s for more than 50 years, the Staccato has a grip that has taken a bit of getting used to. It has been a very pleasant and reliable shooter, though, and I’m liking it more and more as I continue to use it.

2011 would be too large a grip for my hand size and stubby fingers. Regular 1911's are a go for me. Bob

This is hard to explain, and may be all between my ears, but Turkish pistols all feel like they're made as a thing and not crafted as a gun to be shot. This goes for their semi auto shotguns too. I had one with a charging handle so sharp I originally wrapped it in tape, then set screwed on an AK charging knob. I thought at the time, "Do they even shoot their own guns?" I think they load the specs into the CNC and let 'er rip. Whatever comes out is what ships. They're 100% dependent on the quality of the original design they're copying.

What's odd is I don't get the same feeling from the Japanese made rifles and shotguns, and we all know there's no significant civilian firearms culture there.
