Can someone help me out with the pricing of an Anschutz model 54 Sporter with Leupold 4 power on it? It's in excellent condition and has been tucked away in the safe with a golden rod for way to long. I'm to the point where I need to start thinning things down that are no longer used and I'd like to see it go to someone who will appreciate it for what it is. I think it's a 73'.

Thanks in advance,
Beav

If nothing is missing, Sights, sight Hood etc., depending on the wood, $1100-$1500

Best,
Gary

$1100-1500 in the current used market is steep for what else you can get for the same money. The quality is worth that and replacement with new supports that price, but the Weatherby/Anschutz 64 sporters are much less and very eye catching!

The type of bases and rings makes a difference. The Leupold 4x needs to be described, is it a M8 or a compact model? (M8 would be $300+/-)

Nobody makes a 22 like Anschutz, but the used target rifles bring big money. Most people buying a Premium Sporter want eye candy with A++ wood etc. and Anschutz didn't usually do that (special editions, and show guns excepted.) I had a bull stainless barreled 54 in 22 Hornet made for the NRA and SHOT shows in 2006 with knock your socks off wood, the other 4 guns in that same run are just straight grained Walnut. Kimber and others understand: People with money like that, like to shoot good, but they MUST look good!

I bought it back in 2005 and had a shop put the Leupold on it. Not sure which models they had back then, it just says 4X33 on it. It's been awhile since I have been on the forum, not sure if I know enough to post pics anymore but I just got it out to clean and took some pics. I can e-mail them if you'd like to see the wood. Probably nothing like yours but I like it.

With a 33mm front lense it probably is not an M8, so I believe the scope would be worth less. Leupold changed technologies on their lense coatings back then, and flooded the market with their old products. There were some nice scopes at very good prices, and it is still under warranty, no mater how many times it changes hands!

Let me try a couple pics here.....whoops, upside down but you can get an idea.

Ivan,
This is a 54,not a 64.
Best,
Gary

That actually has more figure in the wood than I expected. K-22's estimate of $1100-1400 just might be the best estimate!

Why not shoot more squirrels? Let your kids sell it off after you're gone. I do understand thinning the heard (I've sold 43 in the last 5 years) but that's one that looks like a keeper!

Nice gun. An early 54 sporter with the barrel boss for the rear sight, and banded front sight.(Finding the hood would be a plus. Not so easy to find- a Winchester 94/22 hood isn't a bad substitute.)
1100-1500 is a good solid price range. The scope alone might fetch 150-200,but wouldn't add that to the price of the package.
Rimfirecentral.com would be a good place to find a new home for it.

Thanks for all of the replies gentlemen, I appreciate it. And my apologies to "rags" for not starting this thread in the right place, thanks for moving it. I've got some thinking to do now. For several years "ANNIE" and I helped keep the squirrels out of a friends apple orchard.... she really is fun to shoot.
Decisions, decisions...

I think the $1100 - 1500 may be a touch high, but would expect $800 - $900 for the rifle then $200 - $300 for the scope. I had two Ancshutz's, a 54 heavy barrel match rifle, (which I sent to my son for teaching my grandson to shoot), and a $64 Sporter. I am familiar with the 54 Sporter and have handled and shot a couple. They are the top in quality, and accuracy. Unfortunately today's buying public usually wants something in black with big magazines that can spray out 4-5 rounds a second.

If I had a chance to buy one (with a Leupold scope) for $1000 I'd take it.

I have owned a Savage-Anschutz Model 164 Sporter .22LR for about 30 years. Grooved receiver which I fitted with Redfield steel tip-off rings and a very nice Weaver K3 (post & crosshair). Different model than the OP's, not nearly as high grade, but it is probably the most accurate .22 sporting rifle I have ever owned. I would not part with it, period.

Both of my sons have used this rifle in their teen years. They are now in their mid-40's, and several of my grandchildren know this rifle very well. I expect there will be some bickering going on after I am gone, which is why I have established (in my will) a simple system of drawing numbers to see who gets what from the gun safe. I think everyone named will get a few worth having!

Nothing wrong with thinning the herd a bit, but we need to preserve the best for the future.

Best regards.

FWIW I found the box in my garage that has scope and laser site boxes, etc. This is the FX-ll 4X33mm.
Way back when we had a gentleman here that went by "Tusker," he helped me put the package together. I asked him what he considered the ideal squirrel setup and this is exactly what he recommended, Anschuitz 54 Sporter with a 4X Leupold. I have him to thank for that advice.

Beautiful rifle, nice set up with the Leupold 4 x 33, M8 and based on my experience, a tack driver!

Good luck with your sale!

Heed Camster's advice. He knows about high end rimfire rifles. What you have is a very desirable 54 sporter with the Montr=e Carlo roll over cheek piece. Rimfire Central and the Anschutz subforum are the place to ask questions about this very desirable rifle and find interest in it.

I collect vintage 1400 series Anschutz 54 sporters.
