Anyone carry two pistols daily?
Recently I started to try out carrying two pistols. Contrary to what I thought, it’s very easy.
This SIG P220 strong side hip in a leather thumbbreak, with an extra mag support side. Also support side is the Spyderco and flashlight. In a pocket holster strong side front, resides my SIG P232.
A stiff gun belt balances everything nicely.
Some folks might consider this extreme. Then again some think it’s extreme to carry one gun.
It works fine for me.

Just one unless we’re taking a long car trip. Then I pack an extra J frame just in case, along w/a 50 round box of ammo.

People think because I carry a gun and a knife every day that there is something wrong with me. That's ok because I don't have any need to discuss it with them. It's none of there business. I think there may be something wrong with you for carrying two guns and a knife but then again you don't have to clear it with me. It's none of my business. You take care of your business and I'll take care of mine and we will get along fine.
BTW if I were younger and stronger I might would go for two.

Always a good idea to have a backup (gun, person, plan).
To balance the weight distribution, and for ready access with an injury to the dominant hand, a pocket handgun on the off side may be a good idea.

If you have a job that requires you to carry a gun, good idea.
If you don't have a job that requires one, but still feel a serious need for two guns, you need to find better places to spend your time in.

I carry two on rare occasions. And I live in a good neighborhood. Of course there are those that think I'm an extremist for doing so. Primarily people that don't know what they're talking about and don't know me and why I do the things I do.
If you want to carry two, go for it. It's your choice and there's nothing wrong about it.

I never carry two "on me" but occasionally have more than one with me.
I might bring several guns on out of town trips and switch them out according to dress and activity. For example, might pack an Airweight J Frame, a K Frame of some sort, and maybe a Glock or Smith Third Gen single stack in 9mm. Usually pack a few holsters....pocket, IWB, and OWB. Most often using the IWB.

The good part of carrying 2 (or more) is that if anyone asks if you are carrying A gun, you won't be a lie to say no. :-)

Perceived Threat and Life Experience
If you were ever in a struggle to maintain possession of your primary weapon, you just might be wishing for a second gun on the off side that you can suddenly present and put an end to the miscreant trying to disarm you.
I don't criticize anyone for carrying a second gun. I have carried two guns at times but I hate having to dress around a gun, let alone two. I'm hoping that judgment and tactics will keep me from ever needing a second gun.

It's been a while, but I've done it a few times, a 3" 65 strong-side IWB and a 642 weak-side pocket carry, with a speed strip of .38 so I could reload either gun if need be. I've also experimented a bit with carrying a pair of J-frames (a 642-1 and a 642ND) in the same manner, but not for any length of time.
My problem is that I'm one of those guys who has a bunch of cra stuff in my pockets, so figuring out how to carry it all with 2 guns, without resorting to a fanny pack, has been difficult.
Plus, for my typical attire (I practically live in jeans), pocket carrying a 642 isn't exactly "optimum."
I am a fan of having a gun accessible to either side. Unfortunately, lack of shoulder mobility makes support-hand drawing from my strong-side holster nearly impossible with my current set-up (Beretta PX4 Compact in a TT Gunleather Mike's Special IWB holster). It also makes using a crossdraw holster difficult. One thing I liked about carrying a 642 in a Side Guard Holsters Quick Clip IWB holster, that extra play on the belt made it possible for me to do a support-hand draw because I could reach the gun and pivot it in the holster and draw it out.
So, for now at least, I carry one gun at a time on me. But I see nothing wrong with carrying a back-up gun. How many people are willing to drive around without a spare tire?

knew of a Georgia SP that velcroed one of those in the top of his smoky hat-He could doff his hat as a gesture of politeness and have his hand right on the little sucker to shoot right through the hat crown if needed.

The Old Man told me to never go in the woods without a gun and a knife. As I look around today-it's all woods. The older I get, the smarter he was. Been gone 29 years as of 1-23.

Truth be told, I carry two when the wife and I are out and about. She has rheumatoid arthritis. She can’t run much anymore which would force me to stand and fight or draw the attackers away. Leaving her the second gun would hopefully offer her enough protection no matter what happens too me. She does know how to shoot.

Sometimes carry my G19 and G26. Have a G17 as a vehicle weapon. All can utilize the spare 17 rd. magazine I carry on me as backup. Keep 2 extra 17rd. mags in the car that any of my weapons can use.
Shooting in stressful situations taught me to always carry extra mags.

Back in my cop days, I carried either a .45 semi-auto or a .45 ACP revolver as my duty gun. I had a .38 special Colt Cobra in an ankle holster. And, I had a NAA .22 Magnum in my left (weak hand) front trouser pocket. There was always a knife or two in a pocket.
Yes, I DID work in a rough town.

I have a J frame in my pocket all day every day. When I leave the house I add a full size revolver on my belt and 2 reloads.
If I'm carrying an auto I'll often drop to just a full size on my belt and two mags.

I rarely carry two, and if I do, the second is always my NAA .22 WMR in my pocket. I almost always, however, am close to at least more than one other . . .

I'm not allowed to carry two. Virginia CCW laws are rather strict and the permit allows the carry of only a single handgun. It does not allow for the concealed carry of any other weapons, only a single handgun.

This, 99% of the time. The other 1% is when I can’t make up my mind as to which one I want to carry, so I carry 2.

Don’t regularly carry two guns but occasionally I’ll have a pistol or a shotgun in my truck in addition to my G-19 in an IWB.

Nope. I don’t even carry a reload.
I do have a rifle cable-locked to the back seat supports in my truck.

A few years ago I carried 5 guns all day just to see what if it was doable. I had 2 .45 pistols IWB, 1 on the hip and 1 in the small of the back. A .45 revolver in a shoulder holster under my shirt. A .380 pistol in an ankle holster and a .25 pistol in my pants pocked. Made it all day with just a little discomfort in my back when I was seated. It wasn’t too bad but I only did it once and don’t plan on doing it ever again. I just carry one on my hip now and am good with that.

G19/4 on me and G26/4 in my truck with plenty of extra mags. Some days a S&W 640 in pocket and the G26 in truck in case I need a little more than the 640. I started that back when "flash mobs" were all the rage. Seems to work for me.

I would never criticize anyone who carries two guns, or for that matter Jimmy “the hand-grenade man.” For me, anything bigger and heavier than a Commander is an intolerable nuisance. I do like having a carbine in the vehicle, but it would take me quite a while to get it out and operating. The carbine is thought of as a come-home-and-find-bad-people-there tool.

On duty (Uniformed PD): Glock 17 right hip, LCP or SW642 left front pants pocket. Off duty I normally only carry one, but there are times I carry two (Glock 26 plus LCP or two LCPs or 642 plus LCP). I sometimes carry a second to offset the wife not having one on her (she has a permit) but only carries about 40% of the time. If I am open carrying off duty (not common), I will have second one concealed.

While I believe preparedness is a virtue, there is such a thing as going overboard. The term overboard sometimes depends on the individual, but I'd usually easily identified. Case in point; I worked with an old dog police officer. He trained me and I use to watch him prepare for patrol everyday, since his locker was close to mine.
I would watch him load up, first the ankle holster (S&W snub in .38spl) then a Walther PPsomething in IWB cross draw rig, then his duty belt(we just transitioned to the Sig 226). Depending on the weather he would carry a Seecamp.32acp in the inside pocket of his leather coat or in a pocket sewn onto his vest carrier, and finally a small derringer on either his cover or rear pants pocket in a holster wallet. Finally a Buck 110 on his belt for cutting.
Then out to the car where he would extract an M1 carbine w/folding stock or a sawed of double barrel shotgun (depending on what current events and his mood dictated). Needless to say I was a little overawed by this guy, but since he was involved in at least two lethal force incidents and was a decorated Vietnam vet I trusted him and to this day think of him as I suit up and begin the last few years of my hopefully 32 year career.
Now to how I identify overboard: this same veteran had a taste for old war worn weapons. His off duty carry consisted of an old Colt officers auto in .380 I think, a .38 snub, and an older slather P-38 which he carried on the small of his back in the summer since he was always riding an old Indian motorcycle. Well one day after a 4 x 4 shift (you know what I mean ;-) he returned home and while getting undressed discovered that his prize P-38 was not in the holster.
Numerous phone calls and 20 miles of road search came up negative until the next morning when an officer in another dept. took a call for a found weapon on the side of a roadway. The damn thing looked like it was run over a dozen times, gouged and scraped up with cracked grip panels. Dang thing still fired.
Lesson: He never carried more than two weapons again, when off duty, and in quality leather in more traditional areas of his body. Not to mention he left the antique weapons in the safe and stuck to duty weapons that he wouldn't cry over damaging or losing .

Why? I don't live in a war zone! Biggest threat here is a grizzly or moose and neither will give you time for 2 shots MAXIMUM!

I’m not seeing this restriction on the VA State Police website. Can you please provide a link to the section of the Code of VA that limits our carry to one firearm?

In my "Burb of the Burgh" or the Laurel Highlands of Penn' s Woods......as a civilian concealed carrying.....can't imagine the need.
OK some days, going further from home....... I trade the 3913 with a spare mag (7+1+8) for a PC Shory-9 (12+1+15) or a Beretta 92 Compact (13+1+17) or Centurion 18+1+18+18).
If I thought I might fine the need a second gun...... two choices..... stay home a read a good book; or........ take a carbine.
Ruger "NRA" Mini-14; 10*+ 20x2
S&W AR-15 20* + 30x4-6
or a personal "suburban" PDW favorite; a Beretta CX-4 9mm pistol caliber carbine with 20* and 30 rd factory mags that also work in my Beretta 92 Centurion.
*Footnote:I like a shorter magazine in the gun as slightly more PC look and easier to maneuver in/from a vehicle.

When Virginia was a "may issue" state it was stipulated that you could carry only one and it had to be the one listed on your permit.
Printed on my permit, which was recently renewed:
" Permit to carry a concealed handgun"
"A" indicates singularity. It may not be spelled out in the law and you might be ok with multiple concealed handguns, but I'm not really interested in being the test case.

At times, when in uniform, I carried a PPK in addition to my service pistol. I later changed to a Gerber knife instead. I still carry a CS45 and a Gerber knife.

This thread explains the success of the little NAA mouse guns! Most seem to not give them any thought as useful, but there sure seems to be an awful lot riding "shotgun" to a big brother.

I'm pretty sure New Mexico only allows a single gun to be carried by an ordinary citizen CCW holder.
I've read NM is the only state with an explicit restriction on this point.

Respectfully, I have looked at the applicable Iowa law, Chapter 724. The title of the code section clearly lays out permit for weapons. 724.5 does speak to “a revolver, pistol, or pocket billy“ but at no point makes that an exclusive, singular condition.
Could you help on the grammar and legal interpretation?

I pretty much always carried a back-up gun when still working, plus a knife, although the knife was more tool than weapon. I did also carry a boot knife for a while but gave that up as it never seemed secure enough for running or struggling with a resisting subject on the ground. I still carry a knife, but still see it as more tool than weapon. I really don't see how people can function in daily life without a knife of some sort. But I no longer carry back-up gun.
I guess I should clarify. I never carried a 2nd gun off duty even when I worked as a LEO. My off duty gun was usually my on duty BUG.

I'm not LE and even though I live in one of the most dangerous cities in the US and in a bad side of town, for me, personally. It's highly unlikely there's, going to be a firefight where I'm going to need another firearm much less a reload of the primary one. It'll likely be over in seconds and in one or two shots. And if there's going to be a fight over a weapon, it's going to be me fighting to disarm the other guy who pulled his weapon on me.
Again being a civilian, I see no scenario where I'd need to carry two firearms on me. Others can and will do whatever they want...

This is getting to be another well worn path. MHO? Unless you're an on-duty LEO or high profile security, one's enough. The average Joe/Joanne going about their daily business will likely never have to pull their carry weapon, much less be engaged in a prolonged fire fight where the ammo for their primary is expended and a BUG's put into action. Now before you bury me in "what if's" like I said, it's MHO. You wanna carry more than one, by all means, roll with it.

I never have, and never felt the need.
When I was younger and healthier I still thought one was plenty. I've never had to draw one; and now, in retirement and failing health, the odds against my being in a situation where I might have to are even more astronomical.
I do carry a one-hand-opening knife, but it's for opening boxes and cutting stuff, not cutting or opening people.
Do whatever you think best; but for a civilian, carrying three guns seems to me to be a belt-suspenders-and-epoxy approach to anything short of the outbreak of war.
