I bought a pretty cool little folding knife, black drop-point, model SWAT-MBPC, from Graingers. Razor sharp, so far, imported from Taiwan. It has what they call a M.A.G.I.C.-assisted opening blade; you disengage the safety and push a button and it opens like a switchblade. I thought switchblades are illegal. I saw others in their website that open the same way. It doesn't say what MAGIC is an analogy for; that's one question. The other is why isn't this considered a switchblade and is legal? It's really a cool knife. Didn't see it mentioned a while back in the S&W knife thread a short time back. This has a handy-sized 3 1/4" blade and a handy belt clip. My new carry for a while. Thanks, Jeff

If you press on a part of the blade with part of your hand, it's not an automatic knife/switchblade. Switchblades have a button or switch that is not part of the blade that is used to open the knife.

Not sure what your state laws are but Texas made automatic knives legal only a few years ago.

M.A.G.I.C. = Multipurpose Assisted Generational Innovative Cutlery

I have no idea who thought that one up. It's sure is a mouthful!

This one has a button, not part of the blade.

Not sure where you live at but here in TN they repealed all their silly knife laws and now you can carry any size knife anywhere and even switch blades are legal.

Nice looking Eric. Have seen em for cheap money at Bass Pro. Not sure how they would compare to my Sog Trident tanto with Aus-8 stainless steel. Paid around $59 for my Sog. Guess it comes down to steel used and strength of lock-up.

Many states allow you to own knifes that maybe be illegal to carry or can only be carried under certain conditions . Read your state laws on bladed weapons and buy smart .

Truth be told, I only bought it just because I like the looks of it, and it was a nice addition to my M&P family. But once I got it and played around with it, it turns out that it is a pretty well built knife for the money. I think it was under $40.00. It's a hefty knife, and may be just a tad bulky for EDC in your pocket (I prefer my Kershaw Leek 1660CKT for that), but, it's solid, opens fast and easily, locks up nice and tight, fills the hand well, and the blade holds a razor sharp edge. I think it's well worth the price.

ERIC 300, The 1st knife is the one on top. I really like it and it does seem well-made. The belt clip holds it tight and it isn't heavy at all. I always need a knife at least once a day at work, but I work as a steamfitter in a large school district. I don't think I want the HS kids to see me open it! I guess it's legal in PA or the large commercial/industrial supply co. would not sell it. I suppose I should make sure. Guns are definitely a no-no!
