Ruger LCRX opinions

My LGS has a very reasonably priced Ruger LCRX with a 3 inch barrel and adjustable sights (38). I had no idea such an animal even existed. I’m very fond of my “normal” LCR and was favorably impressed with this example. Still, I’m a cautious old coot and thought I’d tap into the collective wisdom of this learned congregation before doing anything foolish. Any words of wisdom?

If you like the LCR, the LCRX should work great for you. I think the adjustable sights and 3" barrel would make a dandy little kit gun. I've owned the LCR and LCRX, but prefer the J frame trigger reset myself. But I may end up owning another some day.

Thanks for your reply. I agree it looks like an ideal kit gun. However, I’m confused by your trigger reset statement. I spent part of the morning wearing out my trigger finger dry firing my LCR and a model 36 trying to feel the difference. The only thing I could figure out is that the Ruger trigger travels 0.114 inches farther.

My brother and I like all the various models of LCR's. But every now and then we have found a dog, So, When buying have snap caps so there is no reason they would stop you from pulling the trigger a dozen or 2 times! If you like the trigger that first time, make the deal! If you think that gun's trigger is "Hinkey" try another gun or walk away!

However, I have a 34-1 4" and am in no way convinced any LCR would ever be as smooth!!!! Doing the job of a Kit Gun, isn't the same as being a Kit Gun!

I'm talking about the issue with the LCR being easier (at least for some of us) to "short stroke". It doesn't bother many people, but some the musher? trigger reset on the LCR sometimes causes the cylinder to fail to rotate causing no shot if the shooter doesn't allow the trigger to come all the way back to it's starting point. It's not really a big deal to ease off the trigger and pull it again, but still it bothers me a little. Google it and you'll find days of reading with people either complaining about it or stating it a total non issue.

Too much obsession with reset riding these days if you ask me. If it doesn't work for a particular revolver or semi, don't do it is the simple solution. The machine doesn't work that way.
