Thinking of adding a RatWorx mini to my EDC rotation. Anyone own one and care to share their opinion of these?

I'm replacing a Gerber automatic that doesn't lock open reliably. I'm rather disappointed in Gerber as the knife is only a couple of years old.

I just got a full size and I like it a lot. The chain does pick up sand pretty good, but a nylon brush takes care of that should it bother you. It doesn't impede function at all. It's a very solid opening. I presume the mini will be even handier and inviting.

Gerber is not the company they once were. Another example of a company living on an old reputation IMO

The 'chain' concept is novel!
HOWEVER, while I own the full size model, I wouldn't use it for full time carry because of the chain. Pocket lint could do it in!! :(

I had never heard of them before this thread. I agree, the chain is novel, and maybe a great design, but I would worry about lint and debris getting into the works. I did look them up, and watched an operational video

Supposedly, it's self cleaning.

The chain can use a brush down every once in a while for sand particles. I've had mine for a week at the beach no big deal. It's just like a bike or gun in the sand, take simple precautions and save the endurance testing or the times when you need it. There are videos of this knife being tortured tested for repeated opening and even mud and sand. It's a good knife and fun to play with.

I’ve owned a Ratworx Mini MRX for a few years. I’ve talked about it before on the forum. I don’t know about current production, but mine was actually made by Guardian Tactical.

The mechanism is probably the most durable of any production automatic on the market. I carried it for a while, but switched to the Benchmade CLA for my EDC knife. The MRX had an anodized aluminum handle, which shows wear rather quickly. The CLA has a G10 handle, which is all but bulletproof. I’ve carried the CLA for almost 2 years and it still looks like new and functions perfectly. I also prefer a safety on my autos.

The MRX is on the left, second from the bottom.

Their testing videos are worth watching. The knife ran through 400,000 cycles before it required service. That’s about 10X what other quality auto’s can handle.

Here’s a recent photo of my CLA (top).

I’m pretty sure they raised the price since then, but my Mini MRX was purchased from PVK Vegas for $150. That was about $100 less than anyone else I thought the deal was too good to refuse.

Well, called Rat Worx (they're about an hour and a half from me). Got a deal on the knife (still pricey), and it should show up today :D

It'll be in my pocket tomorrow.

Still working after 400,000 cycles
