I was browsing 'Forgotten Weapons' and immediately recognized the pistol with the lever Tuco picks up first on the 'junk table' in the gunshop where he accosts the owner to arm him for revenge against Clint.

It's a French designed, Russian built M1870 Galand Revolver. The lever moved the barrel and cylinder forward to eject the 11 mm Perrin rimmed cartridges.

It's also an anachronism too, since GB&U takes place during the Civil War. The gun wasn't even invented until 1868. ;) It's one of quite a few anachronisms on firearms in the movie. Another one was how the revolvers used by them changed from percussion to cartridge conversion guns throughout the movie. And the cartridge conversion guns are an anachronism itself as they weren't invented until after the war too. But it's still an entertaining movie though.

In an interview decades later, Eli Wallach said that he improvised that scene, that he knew nothing about guns. Wallach also admitted that his method of carrying his revolver, protruding from his pants pocket with a lanyard around his neck, was devised when he could not easily draw from a holster.

When you watch these flicks dozens of times, as I have, you may spot small glitches, such as the vehicle in the background during the final face-off in GBU. Or that Wallach is unarmed during "The Ecstasy of Gold," but is armed moments later!
Best not to look too closely, rather sit and enjoy IMO.

Back on the guns. The Bridge scene has two big cannon on the slope of the hill. Suitable for fixed placement or shipboard. Completely out of place for the army out in the field.

I reckon Sergio used whatever cannon he could get his hands on. I must say, I bet it took a monumental effort to get those guns into place, as they are YUGE!

IIRC, from the featurettes on the discs, the crew DID scour museums in Spain for cannons to use in the military scenes. However, when Tuco and Blondie cross the river after the battle, there are rifle muskets lying all over. No way the Confederates would have left them there, weapons were at a premium. Have to watch the film another 5 times...:)
