1st Gun for my grandson
My grandson's birthday is coming up and I bought this little Ruger Single Six convertible with him in mind about 2&1/2 years ago & his mom (my daughter) & dad said I could give it to him this year, birthday #5. I think he'll like it.

A Ruger Single Six for his 5th bday? Why couldn't you have been my Grandpa???
Really sweet package there. A 22WMR revolver is incredibly useful. Pair it with a 22WMR rifle and he's ready to hit the woods! Cheap plinking with the 22LR cylinder...excellent combo

Great Gift the Ruger Single Six
That Ruger Single Six .22lr always makes a
great gift for a young person.
I see you also fixed him up with the right
items to take care of it.
I had to respond because I have my Dad's
1956 Ruger Single Six 22lr. I really enjoy
shooting it and I take really good care of it.
As a matter of fact I was just cleaning it up
a little bit yesterday because I had been shooting
it for several weeks now in my Range Rotation of
Revolvers.
The RSS is very well made, easy to handle
safely, straight forward to take apart for
cleaning, very accurate, and fun to shoot.
Thank you for sharing that Story and Pictures.

Very nice story. About 5 years ago I bought a 1943 S&W .38 spl Victory with the full intention of giving it to my first grandson. Last month I kept that promise. A great feeling . He is an Air Force ROTC candidate, Im very proud of him.

My first handgun was a Ruger Single Six. I bought it myself.

Great gift, start um young. I bought my grandsons life time combination hunting / fishing licenses for their first birthday. Guns will be hand me downs from me, and this thread reminds me that I need to get started on the who gets what list.

EXCELLENT!!!!
I have two such Rugers, an original, unmodified one in .22 LR and a newer version with the new hammer block in .22 WMR. If my grandsons lived in a gun friendly state I would be DELIGHTED to give them those as their first guns. Maybe someday..........

Excellent choice for a first handgun. My first .22 handgun was a Single Six (fixed sights) Convertible when I was 16. Carried it a lot of miles in the woods, took a fair amount of small game.

So I'm now going to get everyone annoyed with me.
I think 5 years is too young for a kid to have a gun in his possession all the time.
If his dad keeps it locked up, and brings it out only for range or plinking trips, then that's fine.
I had my own 22 bolt action Remington rifle at 8 years, but my dad kept it when I wasn't using it.
I guess it depends on the kid.
I still remember playing "forts" out in the back yard when I was about 9 years using my pop-gun. One of my buddies brought over his dad's deer rifle. Don't know if it was loaded, but I decided to go home and not play cowboys and Indians with that kid before he shot someone.

I bet mom and dad will take care of it for him until he is ready to keep it himself!

You're making some assumptions that it's probably best to avoid. It's illegal for him to have it in his possession unsupervised by an adult, so unless you think that I believe in circumventing the law or that his parents are not law-abiding citizens, it's probably best to save your post for a different thread.

I was roughly 10 years old when my dad bought me my first gun: a used .22 rifle (a Winchester Model 190, semi-auto). I kept the gun in my bedroom. Of course, those were the OLD DAYS, before America became the Soviet Union II.
I miss those days...(*sniff*)...

Yep, I had my Marlin 39M Golden Mountie in my closet. I took it to college with me and kept it in my dorm room. My buddy brought his shotgun for duck season. Can you imagine that today? They'd have the swat team surrounding the dorm.
