I imagine others have gotten the email from Kel Tec about their new Model P17, a 17 round 22LR pistol. Looks interesting, and cheap at only $199 MSRP. Only problem for me is they don't mention an option for lower round clips for us poor souls stuck with magazine restrictions. Our limit for handgun clips is 15 round. I like my Kel Tec 380 pocket pistol, and this new model looks interesting...at least to me.

Man, I just can't imagine getting seventeen rounds into a clip! ;)

Looks good, sort of like a smaller version of their .22 mag semi. I have a Walther P-22 that sort of fills the same role as a lightweight, woods walking plinker, though w/o the round capacity.

R/E the 17 round mag. - Would state law allow it if the magazines were permanently altered by being drilled and pinned to only allow 15?

Looks interesting.

I have exactly two KT weapons, a 20 year old first generation P32, and a brand new KS7 shotgun. Both of them needed to take a trip back to the KT mother-ship, but fortunately KT paid the freight both ways, and were pretty quick about it. No problems with either once they came back.

I wonder if I bought a P17 if I could complete a hat trick.

I'm interested in it as a gallery range shooter. This looks like a simple blowback action while the pmr30 is delayed blowback.
Note- my WWII vet dad called them "clips".

Looks like a great carry choice.

18 shots of .22 stingers is nothing to sneeze at.

Kel Tec is an impressive innovator and are good at keeping the prices down. I often look for their products and just cannot buy because I do not like the touch and feel. This looks good too, I will have to look at it.

I own a lot of Kel-Tec weapons.
They always work for me. I also have sent in a product. They did the work quickly and sent it back,,,,no charge for anything!

I am wondering with that many round magazine will the gun have a feeding problem? I can just imagine 17 rounds of 22lr will be a stopper for sure. Practice with it an I imagine putting most of the 17 rounds in a target the size of a BG's head would be very doable. I am looking forward to reviews and dependability of this gun. This gun has a suggested retail of only $199 so I wonder what it will retail for at the LGS?
Depending on future reviews I might be interested in buying one.

I only have owned one Kel-Tec, a PF9, and it had to go back to Kel-Tec with under 300 rounds due to the trigger action totally failed. Kel-Tec replaced dang near the whole gun for free. It functioned well when I got it back but I sold it. For a trigger action to totally fail with under 300 rounds in my opinion was not acceptable as a defense gun.

Good question. I would really be interested in looking at one of these, but with the mag limit no shop here will have them unless they offer options, maybe options will come later. These have a 16 round mag, so it exceeds our limit by one stinking round! I would think that a company in business to sell guns and make money would have given some thought to this and offered options instead of taking states with these nonsensical limits off their customer base. When I go to their accessories page, lower capacity mags are not listed.

Here in Colorado we have a 15-round limit also. Same story for us it's one round too many. This has the same appearance as the PMR-30. Which for some reason I had to have one, it is quickly become one of my favorite handguns super controllable and the 22 mag is a good round. 30 of those on somebody they're going to have a bad day and having basically no recoil, it hits every time. That being said, for some reason,I have to have one of these little 22 lr's also. I also now see that it comes with a baseplate on the slide to pop on a red dot, and a threaded barrel. Now I do have to have one to see if my .22 can will quiet things down.

When I was in NJ... story of my life. Had to get 15 round CZ magazines, which were deemed illegal a little bit ago. Glad I got out.

Personally, I like the ingenuity... but also don’t see it being any better than my MK III. Besides, being KelTec... we won’t see it until 2022.

In Colorado, there is a amnesty on mags that were owned before 2013. So it would be a mute point with this gun, as it was not even in existence then, but your GLOCKS ans CZ pistols would be good to go, and since a magazine is a non serialized item, there is usually no way to determine manufacture date.

Supposedly, they are going to ship out these out starting in November. They are claiming that they will be delivering 2000 pistols a week to distributors. This is the first gun that they are going to do this with as they want to alleviate the problems with previous models not being readily available after release.

I do not think that that would work in Colorado. I believe it has to be factory 15 rounds or less. Some states seem to allowed pinned mags though. They are not illegal to posses (yet), just to sell or buy complete mags over 15 rounds is illegal. Here in Colorado, they are allowed to sell complete magazine repair kits though. Which when put together, seem to bear a strong resemblance to the pre ban mags. In this case though that would not work as the gun was not even developed yet in 2013. I would be willing to bet that the powers that be would be too dumb to figure that out.
