Rock Island $50 rebate heads up
I see on the net where you can get a Rock Island 1911 GI .45 acp for $330 shipped including the rebate. Mine has really been an accurate and reliable gun and basically just about as good as my Colt, Kimber, and Springfield 1911s.

I bought an ATI Military 1911 couple years ago, I think I paid about that much give or take a few bucks, about three years ago maybe. Philippines-made, very accurate for me which is saying something! I'm not an olympic shooter! The gun shop had Rock Islands and I passed when I bought the ATI on line at a lower price. From what I hear these low end 1911s are pretty well made guns; mine has never failed me, but it has missed my left ear twice putting it back together, that darned spring has caught me sleeping! My basement floor has eaten two spring caps so far. I bought extras last time. Either brand is a good buy if you want to see if you want to get into 1911s. Some day I may buy a higher quality (priced!) 1911, but today I say "Why?" It goes bang every time!

My RIA compact .45 has been a little jewel. I've had it a while, and have about $400 in it IIRC, and well worth every penny.
I've had these Colt grip panels even longer, and they do offer a better hand hold than the original smooth panels that came on it. The originals squirmed around a bit with the warmer loads.
For a little over $300 bucks I may get another one, maybe a full size. Pretty good deal for an accurate and dependable 1911!

I too picked up an ATI a couple of years ago. Love it!
The grips are what came on the gun!
