Taurus TX22 mini review
I purchased one of these recently for $229.00 after $50 rebate. I have seen them as low at $209.00, but I was late to catch that price. This is the first Taurus I have owned. At the price point and with all the positive reviews I did not think I could go wrong - even with all the Taurus bashing in general. This is a range/plinking toy, so I am not betting my life on it. However, after its performance, it is much better than a sharp stick.
I only had time this past weekend for some informal plinking. I had purchased two additional magazines (it comes with two) and with them all loaded up I had 64 rounds on tap. I fired 192 rounds in total, mixed Winchester and Remington Thunderbolt. I had one malfunction, which I may have induced. When shooting one-handed in slow fire I had a failure to eject. I may not have had as firm a grip as I had with a two-hand hold, but I was unable to duplicate the malfunction in subsequent firing. The accuracy was minute of soup can at approx. 15 yards.
The gun comes with a magazine loading tool. I did not use it or need it. The magazines have tabs to pull down the follower, I suppose, to assist loading. I did not use those either. I had no problems loading by just inserting rounds one after another and could load all 16 easily.
One thing to note: From a locked back slide, you cannot chamber a round by retracting the slide and letting it go. The slide will not release without depressing the slide lock lever. I always use the slide retraction method when chambering rounds in Glock pistols, 1) because I'm a lefty and 2) that gross motor movement has become ingrained after so many years.
The trigger is much better than a $229.00 pistol should have and the reset is short and very tactile.
I'm sure my grandsons will not complain about loading up the 16 round mags - they'll only complain when the ammo box runs empty.
