I've been looking for a Security Six for a while. A friend found this one in a pawn shop. It is still in pawn but may come up for sale within the next two weeks. What is a decent price without paying too much?
I’d expect for it to sell around $400. That’s assuming it’s in good condition. From that picture I can’t tell if there’s rust freckling on the barrel or just writing and it looks like some high spot wear. Any rust would drop the value accordingly.
There's one for sale on the local Armslist page, it's priced at $475. Things tend to go high there Since most people always try to dicker down the price. From the pics, it looks like it's in very nice shape. It's also a 6 inch barrel.
I don't think folks are keeping up with Security Sixes. Excellent revolvers and haven't been made for quite some time now. Prices for all the Six series revolvers are slowly, but steadily going up. That's a $500 gun. Maybe a little more to the right buyer.
The 2 3/4" Security Six sells for a fair bit more than the 4" or the 6" Security Six.
Around here an excellent condition 4" or 6" Security Six will sell for around $400. A 2 3/4" Security Six in excellent condition will sell for $500-$550.
I paid $500 for the one below about 6 months ago. If it doesn't have original grips that'll reduce the price about $50. 2 3/4" Speed Sixes sell in the $550 range as well.
Mine wear wood for church and family pictures. But the rest of the time they wear rubber:
The square butt Security Six isn't as bad as the round butt SPeed Six with .357 Magnum loads and the skinny wood grips, but both are much more comfortable to shoot and way more practical with a rubber grip.
I recently bought a very decent (95%?) Blued 4" Security Six for $350 including the shipping from a private dealer (no storefront). Did not have original grips, just Pachs.
I found a 4" stainless Security Six last year for $410 and no front sight.
First one I've seen in literally years. They just don't seem to go for sale in north Texas.
I also have a stainless GP100 and it's only slightly heavier.
I bought a scarce 4” stainless low back Security Six this year for $375. According to the guys on the Ruger board it was a bargain. In my neck of the woods Security or Speed Sixes don’t pop up all that often. I’d be looking to buy at $400. Cheaper than that is better. Assuming the revolver checks out and there’s no rust.
