Need help with ID, machete, cleaver, knife?
Picked this up today at the flea market, never seen one before. It’s got numbers all around the blade, a Bakelite handle with fish hooks and matches inside the handle like a survival knife. It has a serial number or model number 96E078 on the blade, any idea what I have?

I believe that is some iteration of a Victor Tool Co Woodsman’s Pal. (Or something very similar). Although not the same blade configuration as the more modern ones, I found this one that is similar from a closed auction.

Member Marshwheeling here knows a Lot about machetes and hopefully he will see this and chime in. You may want to ask about this on BladeForums as well.
EDITED TO ADD—I figured it out. Believe it or not, that is a Russian Spetsnaz Survival Machete Knife. Google it. I found the exact model online.

What 6518 said ^^
I'm not sure of the vintage or manufacture but It's neat and a great find.

The handle reminded me an AK Bakelite orange bayonet

It was apparently a good day for knives, also got a 1969 Puma Bowie, Kershaw 1050, Sog Seki folder and an old Kabar USMC

The "Tomcat" folder is a excellent knife I own one of the same vintage.
They're a little heavy and the steel is very hard but are very good knives.

Nice bit of research on the fly. I have a vague recollection of reading about these things, but I never would have pulled it up out of memory. I might have been interested at one time, until I saw how much they wanted for them. The OPs appears to be the real deal, which I saw listed as a collectible at a $400 price tag, optimistic to say the least. The imitators sell anywhere from $80-175. Looks like a good score at flea market pricing.

The smatchet is a somewhat different animal, designed by Cols. Fairbairn and Applegate as a fighting knife for use by the OSS.
Smatchet - Wikipedia
The Smatchet is highly regarded on Bladeforums, considered to be the correct or best answer to any question that begins: “What is the best blade for...?”
