Pawn shop find: Colt Mk IV Series 80 stainless
Nice condition with original silver medallion wrap arounds and original Colt factory mag. Website dates it to 1990.
One thing, I'm not familiar with this style of front sight. Other examples I've found online from this period have the typical blacked out front sight. Any info on this front sight?

Yeah, of course it's a Millett. Feel like a dummy now. It's a nice sight picture with the blacked out rear sight.

I've got the plain black dual-crimp Millett on my Series 80 Govt Model. Truth be told, of the custom mods done to it, I regret getting the Millett front sight. Yours looks like a dual-crimp. My suggestion would be to keep on eye on it for looseness.

Nice 1911.
As others have noted, it's a Millet.
OEM would have been a 3 dot setup. I have same Model O, just a tad more polished directly from Hartford.

Way back when the Millet system was the ticket for 1911s I installed dozens of the dual crimp fronts. Until now I had never heard of one loosening up. If that is common I will advance this "Karma": If you have one that is loose and can't find someone local to fix it, send just the slide to me with enough money to send it back the same way. I will use my Millet tool and fix it for you gratis.

I have one of those Millett dual crimp front sights on my Springfield Armory slide that I used on my USPSA pistol. Lots of full power rounds and the sight never came loose, unlike the swaged sight that it replaced.

Those sights were very common in competitions back late 80s - early 90s. Hadn't seen one in many years. Very nice find, enjoy your new Colt!

That's the thing about pawn shops; you can see all sorts of things you haven't seen in many years. I'm often inclined to pick up such things. Fortunately for my kids' college fund, these days even the pawn shops don't have nearly as much to offer as they did pre-panic. That's why I picked up this gun I didn't need. I've seen exactly three used Colts in a 200 mile radius in the last 8-10 months, and I picked up 2 of them. The third was definitely in rough shape.

I've got it's twin only without the millet. DIdn't need it as I already have an SKU 108284 S&W 1988 but I just like the old school way the Colt looks

Nice pistol! Here's mine, with some custom modifications, including removal of the series 80 components. They were interfering with the very precise overtravel stop, and I way prefer the 1911 pistols pretty much the way Browning conceived them. YMMD.

As I noted on another forum in response to a pic of someone's 1986 version of the same gun, by 1990 they'd decided to save a few cents and put a black plastic trigger in these, but on the other hand had apparently decided that the collet barrel bushing of the '80s was more trouble than it was worth, as the 1986 sample has a collet bushing but my 1990 sample has a traditional solid bushing.

Mine dates to 1993, and came with the solid bushing, plastic trigger, and plastic mainspring housing.

Pawn shop find: Colt Mk IV Series 80 stainless
Very nice pick up. My only stainless one is a two tone from that same era
The wrap around grips are stashed away...somewhere

FWIW, my Govt Model doesn't have a lot of rounds through it, maybe 1,500 full-power hardball or equivalent JHP, but I've had to take it to a gunsmith once or twice to tighten it back when I shot it a lot. Even now it's got a little wiggle in it.

I've always been a sucker for two-tone 1911s.
