Leupold VX3i discontinued now VX-3HD

If it was on the internet it's gotta be true!

I'd not heard that though ..... maybe shoot an email to Leupold and ask?

The VX-3i’s are still listed on their website, but it’s possible they’re discontinuing them. The Vari-X III scopes started out back in the 1970’s and haven’t changed all that much. I took a quick look and was surprised to see that their excellent Mark 4 scopes are gone. Now they’ve got MK 5HD’s, MK 6 and MK 8 scopes. I can’t keep up.

They currently have a huge selection of different model lines and some are probably redundant. I’ve got a lot of Leupold scopes on guns and I think I’ve purchased only one of them new. Their excellent warranty and product support takes the risk out of buying a used scope.

I have and use a couple of the Var-X III with the HEAVY DUPLEX since I hunt early and late.......Got a couple of Var-X 3i's wtih duplex. Duplex is thin and washes out at pre dawn and post dusk.......I am slowly moving to Meopta( have some) because in my opinion they build a better scope and better duplex than comparable costing Leupolds. The old VX-IIIs with the heavy duplex will remain since the are great in the near darkness.

...if that is true it it is a shame... They are my favorite of the Leupold line as they are of excellent quality and a great value for the money.

My favorites of the line are:

1.5-5 for light rifles and lever actions...

2.5-8 with the B&C reticle...light weight, compact and all one needs in a short to medium range hunting scope.

4.5-14 AO with the B&C or VR reticle. The 1" tube model is the same size as the 3.5-10 but that extra 4X on the top end really helps with small targets at LONG range. It is my favorite .22 bolt action rifle scope. Have a couple of the 30mm LONG RANGE models also and they due nicely on heavier target rifles.

Looks like it may be time to buy a couple of "extras"....

website has not available for sale hate that need a couple 6.5 x 20.Always bought leupold for warranty but never sent one back for repair.

I have a VX-2 that went out of production. Went back to buy another and, poof, they were gone. Should have purchased two.

These are all the ones that were discontinued.

My favorite reticle for close to 400 yards is the "Leopold Dot" a 1/4 or 1/8 MOA dot (depending on power) with a fine line crosshair. Great in the bean field, not so hot in the woods! I think my total is 25, mostly Veri X-III's and a few M-8's a (very rare) 10x, a 24x and a 30x. Almost every Leopold scope I own is AO (Adjustable Objective). As I got older, the 4.5-14 have replaced the 3-9 compacts, and the 6.5-20's have replaced the 4-12's The few that aren't 40mm are 50mm! I had a stack on the shelf of used Leopold scopes but being semi retired they found their way onto rifles, I only have 3 unmounted, and one "On Loan" to a son-in-law!

When I see a used Leopold scope it is super rare I don't buy it!

...they are not "unmounted"...they are orphans, and as such you need to buy them new homes...

I've owned a few of the heavy duplex and agree they're great in low light, but I don't have any problems with the standard duplex. Now the fine duplex is great on paper, but my eyes lose them even in daylight in a heavy canopy woods.

First scope, bought in August of '72 was a Vari XII in 2x7. Still mounted on my Ruger .308 bought the same year. Have since bought two Vari X III 3x9, one of which went back to factory, great service, another VariXII, 2x7, and this year two VariX 3i in 4.4x14. Now that I write this, I wonder why I have so many.lol

VX3 gone

VX-3HD it is.

I see as of today Leupold has an updated Website. It is
a little bit better navigating to find things. It appears they
have reduced the number of Scopes too.

Lucky to get this one.

How quick this thread went sideways.... Leupold should pay for all this advertising!

The biggest change from Leupold (for me at least) is that the custom shop seems to have been discontinued. The big reason I would buy the used VariX series scope was the fact if I didn't like the reticle, I could send it in and have it changed at a very reasonable price. Also could have adjustments changed to target turrets or Mk4 turrets.

Those change out prices weren't so reasonable in recent times.

Got a really good deal on a vx3i a year or two ago. Still looking for a rifle to put it on. Did I do this backwards?
