Dads Shotgun Part II
Cleaned up and cold blue touch up on my dads JC Higgins Model 20. 12ga few years ago . The cold blue had rubbed off so taped off the wood and went over the steel with Renaissance Pre-Lem. After that rubbed and polished all with Ren. Wax. JC Higgins was sold by sears 1946-1961 and manufactured by High Standard. The action is very smooth and last time fired very accurate with Target load 50 yards. The Jeweled bolt is my favorite feature a little remains of mine.

Love those vintage shotguns. A little TLC is what a lot of them need. A friend let me clean up his long passed Grandfathers 1937 Winchester .12 gauge after after he showed it to me one day. (He is not a gun guy.) Some pictures. Wish I had a complete after picture. The biggest challenge was cleaning the goo off the stock and butt plate from the old fashion lace on recoil pad where the rubber had melted. Some Flitz and Renwax took care of the bluing and the wood. Dont think the action had ever been cleaned! The old recoil pad was tossed.

Dad used to rabbit hunt with my uncle and quit sometime 1970's. Gun was kept in bedroom closet till he gave it to me me 1980's . It was covered in dust and finish had flaked off I kept it in storage till 2012 . First time I disassembled it the receiver was full of moisture, crud and rust. No kids of my own hope to leave it to my niece, she has her own shotgun my other niece is scared of guns.

JC Higgins
I have my FIL’s Ted Williams model 10 12 ga. It has a ventilated rib and an older choke tube. He used to shoot trap with it. It is in really nice shape and I keep it that way. Willyboy

I have my Grandfather's Mod. 10 12 GA. I also have three of my father's shotguns and my brother's shotgun. I don't hunt birds. I don't shoot skeet, trap or sporting clays. But just try and get them out of my hands. I dare ya.

My first shotgun other than bolt action was one of those. I hunted quail and ducks with it. It had a very smooth action. I gave it to my future son-in- law when I got a Lefever 20 gauge double. My grandson has it now and it is still in good shape.
