Glock disguised as a Nerf

I always wondered about the wisdom of special colors / decorations that are supposed to show the police that the device is a toy. Orange tips can easily be removed or painted to make the toy look real, and criminals often do this.

Doesn't take a genius to see that the reverse is also true, and an actual firearm could be made to look like a toy. This could cause a fatal hesitation by a LEO, giving the criminal a real advantage.

Given the current political climate, I can't see how the police can function at all. It takes someone braver than me.

So you don't have to deal with the linked site:

Not uncommon these days... in another photo, there were several other guns cerakoted in bright colors.

I have also dealt with numerous airsoft guns over the years which often look exactly like a particular firearm, sometimes requiring close examintion to determine its actual nature.

Snagged in local drug raid

I don't know if the OP saw a local newspaper article or got the photos off the Inet, but last week the local rag, Richmond Times Dispatch had the same gun, disguised as a Nerf with similar pictures (also with a ruler) and the gun was snagged in a local drug raid, along with 5 other firearms, $10,000 cash, and some drug "makins" (Latin names I never heard of and can't spell anyway).

Several low lifes all hauled off to the hoosegows'.

I can't get my head around the idea of trying to make out that the gun is a toy...I mean....come on, man....maybe a 6 or 7 year old could be overlooked accidentally, but a 20's or 30's guy carrying on of these around? I think the cops and Narcs would pay particular extra attention to such a person.

I have 3 sons, and when they were in elementary school we would have as many as 20 boys in "Nerf Wars" and when they were teens there would be as many as 40 screaming teen and several adults running around "playing" paintball! The Sheriff's cruisers were around and sometimes stopped just to watch the fun. It would have been easy to do something evil! (but we aren't like that!)

I have one of the chassis for a Glock but plan on leaving it black!

Not quite as dramatic of a paint job, but IIRC, they caught a BG here that had painted the screw-on threaded barrel cover orange to make it look like an Airsoft pistol. He got still got arrested as a prohibited person with a weapon so it wasn't as sneaky as he thought.

Read about this before.

Humorously, my brother actually got a CAA MCK for his Glock 17 recently, so it was funny seeing this just shortly after seeing his, which is just an ordinary tungsten gray color which looks less like a toy and more like a futuristic weapon from the future, not unlike the M41A Pulse Rifle from ALIENS.

Maybe not sneaky enough to avoid close scrutiny, but it might just cause an LEO to hesitate firing long enough to lose a gunfight.

The presence of guns like these might also get kid with a toy killed. In todays climate, the officer would be prosecuted and vilified.

It’s a horrible idea on so many levels. Perhaps they can prosecute under NFA for possession of an unregistered AOW. Briefcase guns and shoot-through wallet holsters that conceal a gun require a tax stamp. How is a Glock with a Micro-Roni made to look like a toy Nerf gun or Airsoft any different?

Here the bigger problem has been BG’s cutting the tip off Airsoft guns and using them in robberies. The way the law is set up, it doesn’t allow the BG to be prosecuted for felony with a weapon. Just the robbery. The county attorney has been trying for years to get the legislature to make robbery with a toy gun the same as robbery with a real one, but no luck so far.

A very bad idea. Guns that look like toys are as bad as toys that look like guns. A few years ago a kid sadly made the national news , where he was playing in a public park with a realistic airsoft pistol. Someone called the cops, kid with a gun. When the cops arrived to investigate the boy did something that threatened the cops and was shot dead. Very sad for the boys family but the cops have to live with that too.

Wow, if this wasn't a real news story, this would be funny as a prop in a movie! You could give the line "Say Hello to my little friend" a whole new life!

As if the officers didn't have a whole lot of stuff to worry about already. I can see how this could be very bad for all sides involved.

I hope the dealer caught some Fed time as part of the deal.
