SA Revolver Grips, One Piece vs. Two Piece ?
Which was first? Is there an advantage or disadvantage of one style vs. the other?

Great question. I have a Great Western.44 Special that has original plastic imitation stag stocks on it. I’d like to put on different ones and have pondered the same thing.
Hopefully someone with more savvy will come along.

Colt revolvers had one piece stocks for their black powder models, and the Cavalry/Artillery models.
2 piece stocks came later. With 2 piece it's easier to change the stocks, but I prefer the look of the one piece myself.

It's also easier to get access to the mainspring and internal parts of the grip frame with two piece grips.

I prefer the one piece stocks. There’s just something really classic about them.

I had one piece grips on a pair of matched SAA revolvers at one time and while they worked just fine, they were a pain in the butt to remove! I never cared for them and sold them to replace them with two piece sets.
While some say that one piece grips are less likely to move around, I've never had any issues with two piece grips doing that. The key to any grip is how they are fit to the Revolver.
My preference and suggestion would be two piece. I don't like removing the grip frame to remove the grips.

This is one of those instances where you can have your cake and eat it too!
You can have grips with a blind screw, which goes in from one side where the head is visible, and screws into the inside of the second panel, and therefore not visible from the other side.

Not exactly a blind screw, but close. Two piece Ivories with a "diamond" on one side that the screw screws into.

2-piece, for me. I want to be able to easily remove the SA grips after shooting. It's hot here and my hands can generate considerable persperation. The salts and acids that get trapped under the grips and grip frame can start corrosion in several hours. This has happened to me. I have a big problem with buggered screw heads and I'm not as steady as I used to be. I want to be able to easily remove the grips and clean the grip frame with no possibility of damage to the screw heads.
