Default Mossberg MC2C Disappointment

Couple of weeks ago I bought a new Mossberg MC2C pistol from the local Bass Pro Shop. I researched this pistol on line and found numerous good reviews on it. However, mine seems to be a lemon. After cleaning it, I finally took it to the range today with 50 rounds of white box Winchester 9 and 50 rounds of Blazer Brass 9. The second round I attempted to fire was a light primer strike and failed to go off. I racked the slide to get that round out and it clearly showed a light strike on the primer. Out of the 100 rounds total that I shot, I had light primer strikes 5 or 6 times. Approximately seven or eight times, the trigger failed to reset, making it impossible to fire the next round. Finally, on one occasion, the slide failed to return to full battery to fire the next round. I cannot place my trust in a pistol that acts that way. Took it back to Bass Pro Shop and they are sending it back to Mossberg for me. Will be curious to see how customer service is with this company as I have not seen any reviews about it.

Did it have a lot of preservative/lubricant in the striker assembly?

Very sorry to hear of your experience with it. I am impressed by mine, and am now trying to find a reasonable deal on one with safety, and night-sights.
However, I DID have issue with it with what I have to assume was remanufactured LAX fmj. Failures to extract, cycle, and I think even one with a mis-feed. Once I switched to name-brand fodder, all good-in-the-hood. However, I see you started with good-stuff.

Please keep us posted.

I just realized today that I had not provided a follow up on the pistol. I took it back to Bass Pro and they shipped it back to the factory at Eagle Pass, TX. for repair. In less than 2 1/2 weeks, Bass Pro called me and said they had my pistol back from repair. The work order said that they replaced the barrel?? I don't know how replacing the barrel would solve the issues I had with it but it did. Went to the range later that date and fired 100 rounds of the same 9mm ammo, with no issues at all. It ran like a top. Hopefully, I won't have any more problems with it because I really like the way it feels in the hand and several others features such as metal guide rod, steel sites, and a steel magazine release button. When taken apart it looks very similar to a Glock in the frame area. It seems to be a well built pistol.

My only problem with Mossberg in over 60 years was with a .22 rifle. It shot more like a 500 shotgun. It was the only non-usa made Mossberg I ever owned.

It too was sent to the TX site. Later i found out it was actually forwarded over the border to where it was made. They "adjusted the sights". Still shotgun pattern...well duh.

I demanded a new barrel. Next time it was returned and they changed the extractor.

Yada, yada, 7 times back for repairs. The last time they changed the barrel. Since I had deliberately made a scratch mark on the bottom of the barrel I knew they lied. Thru all the efforts I spoke to the Cust Svc Magr several times. She could hardly speak english.

Long story short, I sold it for half what i paid and told the new owner it was not very accurate. He bought it anyway.

The next day I went out and bought a 15-22. Should have bought that one in the first place.

SM, I re-read your original post and will take a shot at your question. 4

I bought the first Kahr P45 I saw many years back. It would not reliably detonate Win/USA white box, nor SilverTip.

Long and short of it was, they'd cut the chamber too deeply. So, there was enough clearance between rim and extractor too allow the cartridge to move forward a tiny bit, which negated the full force of the striker impact.

As I said, the issue with mine was merely 'weak' ammo. Still haven't cleaned it after hundreds of rounds.

I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.....

VictorLouis: Sounds like a good diagnosis to me. I thought about calling or e mailing the repair center for them to tell me the reason for a new barrel, but I decided against it because the issues have been fixed. Thanks for all the input.

With a new barrel comes a new chamber so maybe that’s where your problem was.

If possible, always try to get a review from a paper publication or from a paper publication that also does online stuff. Sources are often more credible.

More trouble, granted, but overall the chances of getting good reliable information is generally greater than something found solely online. No doubt there is good information online, but to find out anything worthwhile from an online-only source you really need some background regarding your product. This allows you to weed out the questionable and worthless information by the non-experts and amateur gunwriting aspirants.

Good advise. This pistol was the first new in box that I have bought in probably 20 years. In addition to online, I also read several good reviews of the pistol in magazines. I've had many new pistols and revolvers over many years of collecting. Probably won't buy another new one for a long time. I like the older Smith and Colt stuff best, but they are fast becoming difficult to get at anywhere near a decent price.

I have a MC1sc and have had excellent experience with their customer service. The trigger pin started to come loose and when I called the customer service rep offered to send me a pin and slide stop lever if I wanted to change them out myself.

I did and the gun has been fine ever since.

Bad news again with this pistol. Went to the range today and shot 100 rounds of Federal 115 grain ball ammo. Had 6 failures of the slide to completely return to battery, causing the trigger not being able to fire the next round. I had to bump the back of the slide to make the slide go all the way forward and then it would fire. Back to Bass Pro Shop for the second time back to the factory because of problems. I should have spent $100 extra and got a Glock. If it comes back fixed, I am going to dump it because I have lost all confidence in the reliability of it. Pretty disappointed in Mossberg.

Did you use the same ammo that you used the first time? I had a bunch of Remington that wouldn't cycle my Beretta 92. Gave the rest to another club member and he had problems with it, so he pulled the bullets and weighed the charges and they were all over the place per him. I would try some other ammo if you can find any and give it another go before you give up .

I don't believe ammo is the problem. I found a review on the internet of the MC1C smaller pistol, and the guy said he was having the same problem as mine and sent it back. He was using several different brands of ammo and it still did not function correctly. I am not one of these who believes you have to shoot 500 rounds of ammo to "break it in" before you deem it acceptable. A new in the box pistol should function right out of the box correctly with no problems. Anything other than that, I consider it poor design and construction.

Tight chamber with not enough recoil spring, perhaps?

Good guess. Hopefully someone at the factory will give it a good once over and figure out the problem and correct it. Sure is frustrating. In over 50 years of shooting and collecting of Sigs, Glocks, S&Ws, Springfield Armory, Berettas, HKs, and other brands I can't remember now, I have never had the problems that I have encountered with this pistol. I am trying hard to like it, but its difficult. I guess I'll wait and see what happens this time before making a decision to dump it. It's not like that it is the only handgun I have. I took my 1943 Ithaca 1911 pistol accurized by Jim Clark in 1961 with me today and put 100 rounds of 45 ball thru it and it amazes me each time I shoot it that it still shoots so good after thousands of rounds.

Nothing more frustrating than a new gun that don't work. I am unfamiliar with that model, but I wonder is it designed for the cartridge rim to slide up under the extractor during feeding, like a 1911 does? If so, your extractor might be a little tight? Not fully chambering without a push on the back of the slide is a common symptom of a tight extractor on a 1911 anyway.

My MC1sc is a bit bigger than my CS9 and just a big smaller than my pre rail 3913TSW. I prefer to carry either of those, but the Mossberg fills the niche for a "traveling out of state" gun because if something happens, it's easy to replace.

It's accurate with any bullet weight I put through it, which I can't really say about some of my 3rd Gens.

I've never shot any Mossberg that I wasn't disappointed afterward.
