Springfield Armory's New Hi-Power

Article says it will be made in Geneso IL.
I was a little surprised, especially considering the price.

Look at what PSA has been going. Computer controlled machine work?

I wonder who forges the rough cut?

FN went to cast slides to accommodate the .40 S&W.

The Brownings in Euro Armies of the Cold War handled even 145 gr SMG loads and all NATO standard ammo.

Who wonders what happened to the Canadian tooling for the Browning HP?

Maybe Glock will make a polymer Hi Power? Striker fired, use G17 magazine? Gaston?

Essentially, the G17 is a development of the HP. Modernized to a Government requirement. That's why the early models lacked case support.

Geoff
Who notes Mec-Gar website is out of HP magazines, I do NOT wonder why. Now about those 20 rounders?

May pick one up at some point I’d rather wait until things settle down and folks have had a chance to get some real trigger time on them. I’ve got a NIB FM model as well as an adjustable sight Browning I picked up a year or so before they stopped production so I don’t “need” another Hi-Power and wouldn’t pay a premium for this one.

I have it on good authority that the European SMG ammo shot loose a good number of Hi-Powers in the British armed forces before sanity prevailed and that ammo was put out of reach.

As for the Canadian tooling, I strongly suspect it was destroyed, in the same way that the UK destroys obsolete weapon tooling and even blueprints. See Avro Arrow and TSR-2 projects.

To all the “nay sayers” search out Jason Burton’s quickie review (Heirloom Precision-if you don’t know who he is time for an education). Very favorable impression of it. While I’m on the wait list for the gun I picked up 2 extra mags from Springfield with some coupons I had lol.

And for everyone that hates SA I assume you all feel the same way about S&W :D

I required about buying the grips for my HP….

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Springfield Armory. At this time we have not been given any information on offering the individual parts for the new SA-35 for sale.

Guess it will be a while.

Neat pistol, but looks too much like a 1911 for me!
I've heard many strange takes, this one is up there.

It looks almost exactly like the Hi-Power has looked since it's introduction.

It also looks just like a 1911 except for the safety, slide stop, muzzle end profile of the slide, the grips, the grip screws, the double stack frame, the trigger that looks nothing whatsoever like any 1911 trigger, the wide magazine, the lack of a grip safety, the wide front strap and no mainspring housing.

:D

:D

It is obtuse and dark looking and has a little hole on one end. It also has a contraption so you can hold on to it....

You could just as easily be describing a Glock with that.:D

I had been giving thought to plunking down the money on a Dan Wesson 9mm 1911. I think I will buy one of these SA-35's instead and save some money. Already have 1911's in .45 and .22

Glocks and other plastic pistols are tools, like a garden hoe and while they undeniably work and work well, they just don't have a soul. 1911's, High Powers, CZ75's, well made revolvers and I'll even include S&W gen 3 auto's have a soul that some of us can just feel and connect with.

Hmmmm. I might need to correct a long ago error I made when I foolishly let my BHP go. This would allow me to do that now wouldn't it??
