Was in Sportsman's Warehouse a couple of weeks ago just browsing shooting and fishing. They have all their handguns hanging on the wall behind the counter. Saw what appeared to be a Beretta 92fs in a sand color on the wall. They weren't busy so ask to take a look. It was a clone made in Turkey by Girsan. Fit and finish was good. Noticed it didn't have a chrome lined barrel like Barettas. (I have a 1985 92f made in italy). Looked on line today for reviews and see that there are some differences. One said it is NATO approved and Girsan makes for Turkish military and LE.

I think the price was $300-$400 range. In this economy seems clones are attractive to buyers due to price.

Anyone have one and what are your thoughts.

I’ve looked into them a little. Seems they are of decent quality, especially for the price. Girsan produces a number of hand gun clones, however their 92’s appear to be the best of the bunch. They have a frame mounted manual safety example that they sell and it looks interesting to me as the Beretta counterpart is like $1200.

They make a considerable number of good handguns in Turkey at decent prices. Whether they're a match for similar type guns made elsewhere I couldn't say but I do know that for a huge percentage of new gun owners out there affordability is a big issue.

I happen to have a different Turkish handgun. Why? Affordability was nice but where else can I get a new in the box, typical double action, all metal, normal trigger, service sized .45 ACP? Okay, compact, not totally full sized.

I didn't let the political tensions between the countries sway me, either! I was swayed by the fact that I can't get one of these made here at under 600 bucks. Way under when I bought it, actually.

They appear to be high quality clones, but personally if I were going to buy a Beretta 92 clone, then I would sooner opt for a Taurus PT92 due to the frame mounted 3 position safety/decocker. Folks can slam Taurus all they want, but the PT92 is generally considered to be their best pistol, as it's a updated clone of the original Beretta 92 (no prefix) built in a former Beretta factory using Beretta's old Blueprints, and many of the incremental upgrades Beretta has made to the 92 design over the past decade actually originated with the PT92. (The PT92 had 17 round magazines and a full picatinny rail before the Beretta 90-Two/92A1 were invented.)

I have a SAR K2 45 that I snagged from CDNN at a firesale price. It's big, heavy, and does what it says on the can. Hard to go wrong with 14 rounds of 45 ACP at the ready.

Release the Kraken

I've read somewhere that the Turks are now making guns using state-of-the-art computerized and automated machine tools capable of a high degree of precision, not in backstreet sweatshops with hacksaws and files. I haven't made a detailed study of them, but the few I have examined appear to be very good.

I have only one Turkish pistol. A CZ clone made by Canik. It's a well made and reliable firearm and possibly my favorite range pistol. Very accurate as well.

I got one from the local pawn shop that sells guns. For the same reason as you. Their policy is 'trigger locks will not be removed'. Well, that was as mistake I will NOT make again. The action makes a bone-stock Beretta 92 seem like it was personally massaged by Ernie Langdon, himself.

Yep. Just try to take my PT99 away from me. I dare ya.
That and my EAA witness .45 full size with the Wonder Finish and factory ported barrel/slide.
Both have been flawless performers since I bought them in the late 1990s.

That’s a bummer. I just watched the Honest Outlaw review one of the Girsan 1911’s today quite favorably. However as we know there can be many outcomes within the manufacturing process and I’m sure not everything is equal depending upon the pistol type being produced. I have no hands on experience so I’ll trust you until I get to handle one!

I’ve got a couple of ArmaLite AR-24’s made by Sarsilmaz and they’re well-made pistols. I’ve heard good things about Girsan and I wouldn’t have a problem with buying one of them either.

Please, don't count this a dig against Girsan. They DO have the ability to produce great stuff. I have an EAA 1911 pattern in the stable right now that is great. I wrung out a Sar 8 last year. IT is a fantastic pistol that I can highly recommend. It's just that, particular, pistol that suffers in the action.

I have CZ clones made by both Sarsilmaz and Canik. They are equal in every way to the "real" ones, and my other clones made by Tanfoglio and the cousin Jericho 941 made by IMI or whatever it's called now. My only "real" CZ is a P07. I have the Sphinx clone of that one too, the SDP.

My latest one is a Sar 2000 in SS, very nice!
