I recently purchased one of these pistols and like it very much. I think it was very good value for the money. There is one thing that bothers me though. It seems to me that it is very hard to rack the slide. The pistol appears to use the regular Browning tilt-barrel design, but it is much harder to rack than any of my similar guns from other manufacturers. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and if I should consider trying a lighter recoil spring or some other course of action.

Cocking the pistol requires that two springs be compressed, the recoil and hammer springs. Try cocking the hammer and then retract the slide. Try replacing with Sig springs, if necessary.

I'm not a fan of randomly changing springs, manufacturers typically spend quite a bit of time and money developing pistols and that includes the best spring rates for reliability and durability. Like the Browning Hi-Power and its clones, with the hammer down, the slide can be really difficult to rack. Cock the hammer first, it should make the slide much easier rack and chamber that first round.

I believe it's the hammer spring that makes it so hard to retract the slide on the Arex. You can buy factory lighter springs from Polenar tactical and they ship to the USA.

Awesome pistols. I liked my Rex Compact better than the P229 that I had. Better fit and finish and it was actually compact at 5 inches unlike the P229.

The grip circumference and the hard to rack slide were ultimately the reasons I sold the Arex. I didn't mind the grip but my wife couldn't even reach the controls. I had the PVD nickel finish and if my hands were sweaty or wet I doubt I could have properly manipulated the slide and I'm far from weak.

To give people an idea the grip is larger than that of a Glock 20 and the slide is about 3-4x as difficult to rack with a narrow and very slick slide.
