My guess would be it would need to be drilled/tapped for a scope mount.

Yep, only way to scope that one would be to have it drilled and tapped. It was intended to be an iron sight target gun when built, if someone wanted a scope that would have been the way to do it.
That is a beauty. I personally would not drill extra holes in it if it was mine.

I like that rifle!
I don't have any tips about mounting a scope. Like the others have already stated, you'll need to have it drilled and tapped.
But I do want to show off one of the most accurate .22's I've owned, this H&R Model 365. H&R made some fine firearms way back when, this one was only made for two years, 1946 & '47.
