I have a H&R 265 Targeteer 22lr from my father-in-law. It has a peep sight on it & I'd like to put a scope on. It doesn't have "grooves" cut in the barrel, just the 2 screws that hold the peep sight on. Can I put a scope on it & if so what do I need? Thanks, Bernie

Yep, only way to scope that one would be to have it drilled and tapped. It was intended to be an iron sight target gun when built, if someone wanted a scope that would have been the way to do it.

It may also take modifying bases to fit the curve of the gun. I doubt there are bases listed for that rifle.

I like that rifle!

I don't have any tips about mounting a scope. Like the others have already stated, you'll need to have it drilled and tapped.

But I do want to show off one of the most accurate .22's I've owned, this H&R Model 365. H&R made some fine firearms way back when, this one was only made for two years, 1946 & '47.
