Hey All,
So I'm in the market for a hard plastic case that can carry up to 7 pistols or 6 revolvers with barrels as long as 6", bonus points if it also has room for magazines. This will be for transporting in my vehicle to the range and camp for a day of shooting. I'm open to buying 2, 1 for pistols, 1 for revolvers since the cutouts are likely to be different sizes. No plans for air travel, etc. Precut foam insert and watertight seal are desirable. I've found several that might work for pistols, but none specifically for revolvers, especially 6" barrels. Any ideas for both types of firearms would be appreciated. Many thanks!

If you have a strong long gun case you can put everything you described in it. I have put up to 16 handguns in a case like that.
The liners held the guns in place without a problem.

When I moved 60 miles to my present house that is what I did all worked fine!.

A case with cut outs for specific guns would have to be custom made and expensive.
There are a number of companies that make cases in different sizes that are lined with egg crate foam and work just fine. ;)

There are lots and lots of options available, google is your friend. Pelican has a number of customized and customizable options on their website.

I have a heavy duty "4" gun lockable gun case. I put 4 single actions revolvers on each of the two levels. They are placed in pairs, like an interlocking L & 7. I have from 4" to 7.5" and had no issues. I usually stuff a belly gun or several along the edge.

I also get two lever action rifles and two shotguns in a case meant for 2 scoped rifles. When the boys and I go to a cowboy shoot, we will have 16 to 20 guns. I always have a spare set of 4 in case the is a breakdown!

For quite a stretch I did the deal where we would pile guns in to a rifle case or a bow case… and no matter how “secure” they felt, handguns just want to migrate slightly, and you are playing the odds until eventually a couple touch in to each other. I still have an idiot scratch on the bottom of my bull barrel Mark II from the front sight of another pistol that scraped it.

You can get zippered pistol pouches and put a collection of those in to a large case — that is better but you still end up with a large, gangly case.

Maybe 15 years ago I figured out the ultimate solution for me and if you try it, it might work for you.

Each handgun in it’s own zippered pistol case. Usually $5-$6 each unless you buy fancy ones. And then… old computer laptop bag! Used to be easy to find, these are more difficult to find these days. And you are not looking really for anything made for a laptop these days because laptops are extremely thin and light now. You want a big leather or feau-leather bag made for the fat old clunker laptops.

I carry up to ten handguns this way, all in one bag. Yes, ten of them gets a little stupid in weight. But they are all safe and secure packed this way.

If you got a case deep enough ao that a handgun sitting with its butt and muzzle touching the bottom would allow the lid to close, then filled it with picece so say 1 1/2" thing foam rubber you would be in business

Say I got one with that was 14" x16:" and 6" deep. Stuck in 10 pieces of 14" x 6" I could stick up to 9 handguns with up to 6" barrels in it by alternation which way they were pointing and if all of them were not N frames and X frames. Similar idea to the ones Puller shows.

An 6" N frame with target stocks sitting like that is a bit over 12" long, 5'' high and their cylinders are 1.710" wide. But if you alternate and the cylinders will not be side by side.

Great ideas! I knew you'd come through. Popped in to Harbor Freight and they have this case:

5800 Weatherproof Protective Rolling Carry-On Case, X-Large.

Seems well made and good enough for my purpose. $99 and might get some off with a coupon. I figured I would take the foam insert out intact, line up the pistols and revolvers in zippered pistol/revolver cases like Sevens suggested and should be good to go. What do you all think?

I got two hard cases from the Chinese store (Harbor Freight) for about $20 each, IIRC. They're about the size of a suitcase, a smaller one but thicker. I got them to keep my handguns and while not perfect, they do an adequate job and have enough foam in them to hold the handguns w/out them moving around.

Due to my lower back injury, weight of the Handguns and the case are my primary concern. I've aggravated my damaged nerve simply by lifting a heavy gun case out of the car when I've got to the range. Made for a miserable shooting session after that. Also of concern is our state gun laws which require the case be made of a solid material and be lockable. So I use something like a pelican case and limit it to three handguns per case at a time. If I've got to make a couple of trips to the car that's far easier then trying to shoot with chronic back pain.
