I just could not resist this parlor gun because of the craftsmanship and charm. I can't wait to get my hands on it and see if I can figure out where it was made etc.

Anyone else have examples? Thanks!

I had one of their schutzen(sp) rifles once. a beautiful piece of craftsmanship. it was chambered in .22 short but it had been reamed out to .22 short from a shorter shell. a real tack driver. the seller thought it was Belgian. Lee

While often called PARLOR pistols, they were most often used in exclusive shooting galleries in western Europe.

Very likely its 6mm Flobert rimfire which could be mistaken for 22. Don't shoot a modern 22LR or even Short in it. You may be able to try a 22CB or BB cap, but these parlor pistols were not meant to contain anywhere near the pressure of even a 22 Short, nevermind LR. Be careful if you attempt to fire it.

I once had a well made little 22 carbine of
Flobert design. Beautifully made. I nver tried
to shoot it. Quality wise, they were all over
the map.

Many historians consider the Flobert as being the first true metallic cartridge. Interesting that the Flobert design has no locked breech, just a hammer. It is therefore limited to the use of only very low-powered cartridges.

Of course with a little extra oomph! it would become a semi automatic. :D

Thanks for all the comments, I do have some BB and CB caps, I will report any indoor or outdoor range action. M

This thing is a monster, I took some measurements, it is a 6mm or 22 and a de bulleted, de powdered 22 short popped off just fine.

I found some 22 CB rounds and will try them when they arrive, the hammer spring is so strong I can see why there was no locking breech.

Does it have any proof marks, etc. that might help identify its origin?

Oops, yes, I forgot to add, ELG in an oval with star and an inspectors mark? U with an overhead star.

Assuming Belgium and if I had no internet, car, telephone, lighting, electricity, grocery stores and all the other things I am forgetting, I would be perfectly happy hanging out with the boys and popping off a few rounds in between swilling mead, chomping on mutton shanks and fighting the Huns! (historians, my apologies! :D)
