I had one of the early Glock 44‘s, bought in March 2020, for almost two years. It had serial number prefix ADUS and had some reliability problems. It was 100% reliable with Stingers, but would have failures to feed every second or third magazine or so with pretty much anything else. Even though I am kind of Hollywood looking , my limited finances won’t let fire very many Stingers …

Does anyone have one of the newer versions? The Google says Glock made some changes somewhere around prefix AEK and that they are supposedly more reliable now. I saw this on GlockTalk and there are too many Glock fan boys on GT for me to not take comments there with a grain of salt. Otherwise, I liked my original version quite a bit and would have kept it if it weren’t for the reliability/feed issues.

It is my understanding that Glock made some changes to the slide and ejector after serial number prefix AHEK. I bought a G44 right after they first came out and I have not had any issues with mine. I did initially run a couple hundred rounds of of CCI Velocitors and Mini-Mags.

I think the key is to run quality high velocity ammo as much as possible. With .22 ammo what it is today you are bound to get ammo related failures from time to time. Another thing with the G44 is to make sure the ammo is oriented correctly. After loading the last round in the magazine, turn the magazine upside down and pull up on the tabs.This will orient the shells in the correct position.

The G44 is a good trainer pistol if you already have other Glock pistols. With this being a Smith & Wesson forum I will have to say that I have S&W 22 Compact that I really like as well and have never had any issues with. One of our local gun stores uses the S&W 22 Compact in their concealed carry classes and those guns have been shot thousands upon thousands of rounds.

AppState - Thanks for your input sir! I neglected to mention that I also have an M&P Compact and it has been 100% so far. Just like probably 90% of the folks on SWF, I don’t need another Glock or another 22, but I would like to get another G44. It was my basement/reloading room stowaway for over a year and I liked it because there isn’t much to rust on one of them! It’s pretty humid down there and I kept seven Stingers in the mag and fortunately never had to use it. Understand the aluminum slide on the MPC won’t rust either, but darn it I still would like to get a G44 that might be/should be more reliable than my first one.
