.600 Overkill

Any of you folks ever shot one of these beasts? The shooter did a great job of shooting the big recoiling rifle. Seeing the close-ups of the first rifle.....it is beautiful!

JFYI, The .600 Overkill is a hunting cartridge designed to fit the CZ-550 action, by American Hunting Rifles. The .600 Overkill was designed by Robert Garnick of Las Vegas, Nevada. The case is a custom, with a belt, .683 in (17.35 mm), added for headspacing and the rim to fit that of the .505 Gibbs .640 in-(16.26 mm) size, bolt face.
This cartridge was intended to fire the largest bullet able to fit in the CZ-550,[1] and was designed specifically for the purpose of elephant hunting.

First shooter received a:
1. 9.2 for degree of difficulty.
2. 7.1 for form.
3. 5.2 for being pushed out of shooter's box.

Coach recommends two weeks of remedial 458 WinMag school, followed by one week at Weatherby's 460 Chiropractic Retreat or stick with Smallbore.

There doesn't look to be a quick follow up shot possible. You may not need one but a companion with a similarly potent gun while hunting dangerous game would be a great idea.

Finally, the cartridge designer succeeded in his quest - there are no more elephants in Las Vegas, NV. Not even at Circus Circus.

I shot a double rifle in 458 about 45 years ago when I was young and stupid. My shoulder still hurts!

My dad did a couple of African safari's and I don’t think he ever went bigger than a 30.06.

That is a beautiful rifle, with a hideous muzzle break! I've shot quite a few 458 Win Mags and lots of 375 H&H from bolt guns. My guess is the young man in the video wasn't used to high recoil guns!

Was it my imagination or was he alternately shooting a right handed rifle from his right shoulder and a left handed rifle from his left shoulder?

The editor reversed the images temporarily. Either that, or the equipment and the livestock in the background moved to opposite sides of the scene for the left handed shot.

I had a 460 Weatherby years back. It had a muzzle break and weighed about 12 pounds and had iron sights. I shot it twice and the stock cracked, which happened on a lot of these. Sent it to the factory and they replaced it free. I never shot it again and stuck to my .375 which was painful enough! Today at almost 81 years old a 22/250 is about as much as I want to fire.

The most recoil in my gun cabinet is my beat up old H&R 10 gauge single shot. I really can’t think of any critter I am mad enough at to pull it out of the cabinet. I never met an elephant I was mad enough at to shoot that thing! More power to him but I will gladly abstain from that punishment!

Only useful application I can think of at the moment.

Robert Ruark titled his book “Use enough gun!”, but only because “Use enough gun, but no more than that because you want to still be conscious for a follow-up shot!” would have been too awkward on a book cover

I once shot a Ruger # 1 that was re-barreled to 600 Nitro Express! A much lighter rifle than the CZ in the video.

Pretty rifle and probably less recoil than a 50BMG (yeah, I know they tend to be much heavier). But why?
