Just picked up a Remington 870 Magnum left handed shotgun (ejects to the left). My question is, can any 870 barrel be put on this gun or does the barrel have to designed specially for left handed guns to fit properly?

Yep, left hand barrels only on a left handed receivers. I have several left handed 870s and they are very hard to find left handed barrels for. The few that I have seen have 2 3/4" chambers without the Rem choke. I am always looking for 3" with Rem choke, so far no luck. The left handed Super Mag may be even tougher because of the 3 1/2" chamber. Good Luck!

Having fought and mostly lost the Left Hand Gun Battles, I just passed on the LH Shotguns.
LH Rifles have pretty much occupied my attention.
I still have two.
A pretty Carl Gustaf and a really Ugly Savage.

I'm confused, why does a left hand ejecting shotgun have to have special left hand barrels? Mind you I don't own an 870 so have no experience with the things.

the shape of the barrel where it meets the receiver. It is cutout on the right for right hand guns and on the left for left hand guns to clear the ejector port.

I just put a left hand safety on my right hand guns (an easy change). Never even notice the shell ejecting.

Also don't forget about the Browning BPS. Bottom ejection like the model 37 and with a top tang sliding safety. This is a true ambidextrous shotgun and if you ask me it's a really a fine pump shotgun.
