That was my dads go to squirrel rifle. I can remember following him around the woods picking up squirrels and putting them in vest before I was even school age. He’d use a model 12 till the leaves fell then switch to the Win 77. I still have it and it’s still very accurate. Wood is beautiful by today’s standards but it was not an expensive rifle in it’s day. I see them from time to time at gun shows for $300ish. There’s no amount of money that would buy mine. I love the old school optic on that one. Mine also has an old Weaver 4x.

They also made the Model 77 with a Tube Magazine You will likely find some posts/Info in the Winchester Sub Forum @ Rimfire Central's web site

I use to have one, sold it. Beautiful little rifle. Wood was fantastic. They are an absolute bear to strip and clean. You better know exactly what you are doing or you will probably never get it back together. Unlike anything you can imagine. Can't stress this enough, don't start if you aren't 100% sure you can get everything back together again. Sold it for that reason alone.
Have many other Winchester 22 cal rifles, love them.

I have one. Shoots okay with the factory magazine. I bought an aftermarket magazine because I wanted a spare, and factory magazines are near unobtanium (and quite expensive when they can be found). The aftermarket mag turned out to be junk.

This one came without a mag, I was extremely lucky to find a Winchester factory one on eBay for under $100. I have heard bad things about aftermarket mags also.

I have a 1950s magazine model, good shooter, the magazine on mine a little finicky, had to adjust the feed lips. as noted factory magazines hard to come by. Instead of disassembly a good spray cleaning. On RimfireCentral in the Winchester forum several knowledgeable M-77 members.
My first range session, the sights were way off, then I realized a previous owner put on a front sight that was like a ski jump.
