Show me your Winnie ....
Sometime I just have to laugh at the terminology that some folks use on gun Internet forums. I mean really, does anyone ever go into a local gun store and ask the guy behind the counter to take a look at that "Winnie", or "Remmy", or "Mossy"? In the he man gun shops I've been in they'd forcible take your man card and laugh you out the front door if you asked to see the guy's "Winnie".

Ugh, I forgot about 'shotty'. I really detest that one. How about "little pony" for a Colt pocket pistol.

I don't like "wheelie" worth a damn, and "boolits" is just imbecilic.
But then I also cringe, hard, when someone refers to sandwiches as "sammies".
I like to think I had outgrown that kind of talk no later than age four.
I detest cutesy terminology.

^^"Boolits" makes me want to put my foot through the computer screen. I'd like to personally kick the *** of whoever came up with that term. This is the United States of America, not "May-hee co". Boolits.... she at. (projectile vomiting icon goes here)
Same for the cutesy, folksy, "aw, shucks" talk, "Wails, we plumb ain't got no dang 'ol 'taters round these here parts fer nuttin, tell you hoo-wut". Grow up, already.

I once had a coworker that liked to talk in abbreviations and acronyms, the meaning of most of which were only known to her. She never understood why I told her I didn't understand . . .

Also detest most of the new, cute gun terms. Somehow, it beats some of what I've heard from behind the gun counter though....
Examples:
'I'm lookin' me a Smith 'n Western revolver...'
'How much will you give me for my Mossenberger shotgun?'
'I see you have an old Harrison and Richards revolver in the case...'
'I'd never own an AR that didn't have a picaninny rail on it'.
I could go on for awhile.....

Years ago on a sales trip to a sugar cane farm in Australia, the farmer referred to his new cane harvester as the "newie". That was strange!

It's a term used to indicate home cast "boolits" from commercial store bought "cast bullets."

In the airgun world the term "springer" is used to indicate the use of a spring piston firing mechanism and has been for years. Most of the rest seem to be an attempt by new shooters to be accepted by the "old hands". By the way the term Harley was in general use back in the 30s and 40s as a contraction for Harley-Davidson. It was generally used with the greatest respect.
The rest mentioned need to go away.
By the bye what's with the term Bimmer as opposed to Beemer?

One is the car the other references the bike. The folks that own the respective BMW's use the terms. Mine however is a Harley!

Harley, unlike Remmie and Winnie, is not a shortening, but is the man's name.
Howsomever(and if that offends that feller that don't like "folksy talk", too bad. That's the way I talk so that's the way I write) they oughta call it a Davidson. Harley didn't have a thing to do with the motorcycle. He just had money.
Like Sturm Ruger. Ruger had the ideas, Sturm had the money, so his name is first. But I ain't never heard anyone say they had a Sturm Blackhawk.

Anybody who rides a Harley should know that "Springer" is a "who" as well as a "what."

Bimmer is a car, Beemer is a bike. There is some overlap between Beemer and Bimmer owners, but not much.
On seeing an example of the other on the road, both have been known to say "I didn't know they made those". Beemer riders are kidding, usually. Bimmer drivers are serious, usually.

Whenever anyone uses the Remmy/Winnie/Mossy terms around me I ask them if they are totally brand new to guns or do You always talk like a kid in kindergarten? Seems to work fairly well.
Worked with a guy who had a childish term for most everything...and unfortunately thought he was SO WITTY whenever he used them.
He constantly used terms like snot hook, bang switch, go pedal, etc. Drove me nuts.

Thank you for pointing this out!
This is my most un-favorite gun related term I'm forced to read!
I know the cast bullet crowd uses it. However, when I enter that stage of reloading, I will cast "bullets".
I don't like the others, either.

Not surprising when you consider people the last sixteen years look highly on having "feelz" and get offended at any and everything along with the amazing amount of safety nazi's who won't stop until they make the world utterly soft and round and no one gets hurt or can possibly get hurt and you have a society of basically adult children.
I'm waiting for adults using pacifiers and asking for time outs-we're not that far as we do have adult coloring books.....

When I was in college in the early '60s, I had a friend who was taking an advanced math course. One day the professor announced that the class was going to have a surprise "little quizzie". The "little quizzie" turned out to be a real brain-breaker, requiring most of the class period to complete. The lone female in the class was one of the first students to hand in the quiz. She said to the (male) professor, "If that's one of your 'little quizzies', I'd like to see one of your little testies!" The class exploded in laughter, the female turned crimson and ran out of the class, never to return.
Moral: Save your baby talk for actual babies.

Nah, I can always sort out the baby talkers by those who refer to Glocks as plastic guns.

Here's an idea; how about calling bullets cast at home "home cast bullets" and bullets purchased from a commercial bullet caster "commercial cast bullets"? Either way, they are called "bullets" if you are an adult and speaking English.
