Default 2022 Colt Python 3"

Well I finally got my 3" Python, my Sambar Stag service grips, and my Deer Hollow service grips together. I definitely like the looks of the service style grips better on this snubby Python. BTW, I choose the gold medallions because that was what was used on the original Python. Here are some pictures and you can tell me what you think, also

Wood Service Grips look great, and well, like they belong. Beautiful Colt!

I voted service grips for visual appeal but for actual shooting I like the OEM Target grips. I have a 6”, 4.25” & 3” new model Pythons and kept the OEM grips on all three. For my hands the target grips spread out the impact of recoil and the way they’re made between the trigger guard and grip frame keeps my middle finger from getting pounded from recoil. It really comes down to your hands and how the grips fit but for pure aesthetics I think the service grips look great.

There was no option for my choice so I did not vote

I will be putting non finger groove Hogue wood on my 3" Python just like what I have been using on my 2 1/2" Ultimate Stainless Python for the past three decades

The service stocks are not my first choice for a 357 Magnum snubby.

As to Medallions . . . Gold medallions were used on the blue Pythons that I purchased while Silver medallions were on the Stainless and Ultimate Stainless Pythons.

I have no idea what was shipped with the older Nickel or Colt Guard finished Pythons as I never purchased any of them

I am still trying to decide which grips I like best for my 3 inch.

Cocobolo service grips from Eagle
Tulipwood monogrip from Hogue
OEM target grips
2nd Gen OEM targets

Service stocks for the win! Of course, some black buffalo horn would look sharp too?

Congrats!

Love the old Pythons but have to admit the 202x models are more consistent. ...but I miss bright ss

My 90's era bright Pythons all came with Colt/Pachmayr grippers and silver medallions. They've long been replaced.

Your 3" looks very nice with the Deer Hollow service woods.

I like the stag. Maybe a polished T-Grip to go with it?

I just picked up this new 3" S.S. Python last week. I liked the shape of the stocks that came on it, but wasn't too impressed with the finish. A few coats of TruOil made a significant improvement. In My Opinion

No matter which grips you decide on, the gun is simply GORG! Hey, you can change them anytime you want!

BTW, the new 3" Python is the first new revolver I have been thinking about buying for a long time!

Dave, they do look 100% better after the coats of TruOil. Did you coat the checking, or just the smooth areas?

I just coated the smooth wood areas. I put four coats on it, with close to total dry time between coats - eight hours.

Of the three above, I like the Service for looks and OEM for shooting. My personal favorite is Deer Hollow's First Generation Python grips, though they may look a little butt heavy on the 3". They've always been my favorite revolver grip, and Deer Hollow's are better than the original Colt ones.

PSA

Thought this might be of interest to some of y'all looking for one of the new Pythons. This place has them on sale for $50 off regular retail. That is definitely the cheapest I have seen for the 3 incher. I bought mine from here.
