Guardian Tactical Recon 040
Guardian Tactical is a relative newcomer to the world of double-action OTF knifes, but have made their reputation by building solid performing, oversized, work-horse knives on par with Microtech. GT's signature feature is the use of ceramic ball bearings riding on a steel insert plate to reduce friction, and thus pressure needed to operate the knife. The system works! The GT Recon 040 requires less than half the thumb pressure to actuate versus the Combat Troodon.
GT also uses robust, drum-like blade locks that are strong and secure and will prevent the blade from unlocking under extreme tip pressure!
In the hand the Recon 040 is big, and feels big. The oversized button allows easy blade deployment and retraction. The blade is a semi-drop point, with massive 5mm spine and razor sharp single edge. It's a BIG utility knive that can easily stand in for SD situations. While less expensive than the Combat Troodon on average, it's still not a "cheap" knife and is just as scarce it seems.
