I have a weakness for Owl Head revolvers. Iver Johnson graced a lot of night stands and sock drawers in its day. Well made and innovative guns that an ordinary working man could afford.
A .32 S&W Safety Hammerless with a Bourne "knuckle duster" (1905)
A large frame Safety Automatic, six shots of .32 S&W Long (1911)
A Supershot Sealed Eight, 22 LR (1938)
A .38 S&W Safety Hammerless (1898)
Ladies' Home Journal advertisement (1904)

EAA/Tanfoglio Witness. Bought one in .45 ACP that came with an extra .22 LR upper with match barrel and adjustable sights. Later picked up a .38 Super upper that was a drop in fit.
The only problems were a failure of the .22 to go into battery when I had let it become incredibly filthy and a .38 Super FTF due to the magazine follower being installed backwards at the factory. I think the "Wonder Finish" .38 Super upper makes a nice 2-tone effect. The .45 and .22 slides are black.
I guess Remington would be considered off-brand in a handgun. I've had 3 of theirs and still have two.

I love SAA. I grew up in a little Texas cow town.
About 5 years ago, I discovered United Sporting Arms and their Abilene, Silverado, and EL Dorados. They went out of business in Tucson in the early 80's.
I was buying at $300 or $400 for their revolvers. Now they are closer to $1000 or $1700 depending on rarity and condition. Lots of folks have discovered them and priced me out of the market.
Their 357 Maximums are some of my very favorite shooters. The downside is that parts are made out of unobtanium.
My second off-Brand is Dan Wesson revolvers with their quick interchangeable barrels. My 357 Super Mags are stupendous guns for long-range wheelgun aficionados.
Vintage Hi Standard 22's are another unknown jewel today.

You mean like Glock?
Kidding. Love my Gen5 M45 MOS
I have S&W, Colt, Ruger, and Walther in multiples.
I have 1 Glock, 1 CZ, and 1 Springfield Armory.
And I love them all.

For an inexpensive small .22 handgun, I love my Bersa Thunder TP .22LR! Great ergonomics, nice SA/DA trigger, accurate, and 100% reliable with cheap CCI Blazers

Never thougth I wanted a Single Action but when I saw this I couldn't believe the price. OTD for $ 100 with 2 boxes of CCI Quiet. It's a blast to shoot.

Tri Star T120. One of my favorite handguns. It's a CZ "clone" made in Turkey by Canik.

A Para-Carry .45. Most unique Manual of Arms for a 1911 clone that I’ve ever seen. Not a double action/single action but always a double action but no way to recock the hammer after firing. The slide has to be cycled to reset the hammer which is always down. A long trigger pull too. Neat .45.

Mitchell Arms High-Standard Trophy. Shoots as well as my "real" Hi-Standard Trophy if I use real Hi-Standard mags, and does it in stainless.

I would say anything not from the Big Three of US manufacturers-S&W, Colt, Ruger,or more recently established makers-Glock, SIG, e.g. or from the lesser manufacturers-H&R, Iver Johnson, e.g. Anything from a vanished manufacturer-AMT, Interarms, e.g. Or that has seen comparatively little distribution.

How about a Savage 1917 in 32 acp for when you need "10 shots quick". These were very popular in the 1920s and while not as ergonomic as the Colt Model M's 1903/1908 were sold competition for those pistols.
Or
My favorite 22 revolver, a H&R Model 199 Sportsman Single Action. This one is a 1932, first year, second variation and is still laser like accurate. The Model 999 Double Action Sportsman was made from 1932 into the 1980s. The 199 was discontinued for WW2 in 1941. Just a joy to handle and shoot.

Although I don't consider them off brands, some might.
Steyr M40
Beretta PX4 in .40
Springfield XD fairly common. This one is in .357 SIG.

My American Arms PX-22. A copy of the Erma-Werke copy of the Walther TPH. Still shoots POA-POI with practically any .22LR I put in it. Took me 30+ years to find two spare Erma-Werke mags for it (and they are the only weak part - had to slightly modify the magazine feed lips to make them stop stovepiping - the original never stovepipes).

Newer striker-fired SCCY versions are somewhat different, so I cannot comment on them.
|
The striker fired 9mm DVG-1 is my latest acquisition from SCCY: at $149.99 (after rebate!) it joins another 9mm, the CPX-2 with a factory CT red dot (another $200) & two of the CPX-3s (my average cost was $175 each) in 380acp. All came with multiple 10 round magazines.
Although the CPX line has a very long, very heavy (and very safe) double action trigger, high reliability with all three has also been my experience. The quality of the machining is just outstanding, especially for what is commonly considered a "bargain" firearm.
The DVG-1's new action/trigger seems to answer almost all the concerns most often voiced about the SCCYs.
Their warranty may well be the best in the entire industry: I wore out a firing pin after a couple thousand rounds through my 1st CPX-3 and had replacement parts on hand within a week after a single phone call.
For about the cost of an "optics ready" super duper ("PRO"?) Hellcat or P365 variant I have four reliable semi-automatic pistols appropriate for both concealed carry or just plain shootin' it up at the range.
Cheers!

Most of my handguns are Colts...followed by S&W...neither I consider "off-brands". The same goes for the few Rugers I have. What is a "favorite" can change but the more unusual handguns I own I like...even if I don't shoot them often or at all are:
The Coonan .357 I just purchased this past weekend...no chance to shoot it yet...
My original, low serial number Automags...
My Freedom Arms Model 83 .454...
My AMT .45 Longslide...no laser sighting...
And for really unusual...a Reising .22 from 100 yers ago. I don't shoot it because they can crack their slides if anything but standard velocity ammunition is used...they're from the days before high velocity .22 ammo was available and the [iece is in just too nice a condition to take chances with it...many have cracked slides from shooters not knowing what ammo to use...or care...

The closest to "off-brand" that I own would have to be this:
It's from 1960 and it was pretty clear they were working out how to make revolvers. I love it because it was clearly some pretty good machinists and craftsman making it, they just sort of didn't exactly know what they were doing with Guns yet.
The Tyler just happens to fit it perfectly. I forget what the tyler t grip was actually made for off the top of my head, but it makes for a nice shooting little gun.
The innards of this thing are the unholy amalgamation of Colt and S&W.

My cheap, beat up, scarred and abused...Rohm revolver. Cost me a couple muskrat pelts when I had a rather long trap line as a youngster. It was my trapping gun. Dropped in the water, stepped on in the mud, drove stakes with the butt, sent a lot of critters to meet their maker. I still use it to manage mice with rat shot in the basement when they try to take up residence in the field stone foundation in the winter. Priceless for the memories it contains.

Made a believer out of someone who doesn't usually go in for 'off brands' . . . Taurus G3C. Bought on a special deal on top of a 10% off coupon promotion for less than $230 out the door. Like everyone else, Taurus's version of a Glock. 13 rounds, ergonomic, compact, reliable, accurate, eminently carry-able. I love my more 'prestigious' S&Ws, Colts, Brownings, Berettas, Walthers, and even Glocks . . . but for something this reliable and usable for that price- if it takes a tumble to the pavement or Good Lord forbid, held in evidence if needed for self defense - for that price I'll just go get another. Haven't really found anything about the pistol to complain about.

I've been carrying the CZ P07 for about a year and a half. Has over 1K trouble free rds through it, mixed manufacturers/bullet types. I like it although it's a bit bigger than the almost 30 y/o gun it replaced. Joe

Off brand? I'll admit to once having a Raven .25 that I acquired on the down low. We lived in a tiny NYC apartment back then and when my toddler son started asking about "...that shooter" in my tool box I took it to the next NYPD buy back. That was a harrowing experience as I sat there for hours convincing myself this was some kind of sting and the handcuffs were coming out any minute, but at the end of the day I walked out with a clean crisp 100 dollar bill which was a whole lot more than the Raven was worth.

OK, here is 1 for me! Bersa Thunder 9 Pro. My 1st online pistol purchase. Needed a gun that wouldn't break the bank.Wasn't much over $300. Double stack, 17 rounds. I read reviews, and did well.
It performs well, no malfunctions. Last year tried some falling plates with it. Did OK. They still make them, but did some improvements. Todays reviews still good! Bob

Off brand? In the gun world, what does that mean. Actually, what does off brand mean at all. If it has a brand, it can't be "off brand".

Well, at the risk of getting into the weeds, let's ask MW!
off-brand
adjective
ˈȯf-ˌbrand
: not identified with a major brand name
"off-brand sneakers"
.

If by “off brand” you mean any gun line other than Smith & Wesson, then I would have to say Springfield, even though there are others.

So what qualifies as a "major brand" and what makes it "major"?
Is Weatherby a major brand? It's nowhere nearly as prevalent as Savage. What about Perazzi? I don't know a single person who has a Perazzi but I know a bunch with Kel-Tec and Kahr.
Would it be a brand that sells knock-offs of successful designs? Like Kimber or Springfield?
I have an FEG copy of a High Power. Is FEG an off brand? Not in Hungary.
What about obscure brands like Korth?

Korriphila HSP 701 (45acp). I have actually held one. There are not enough superlatives to describe it. The owner recently sold it and bought a small country.

I like my little .32 Llama so much that I recently bought a .22 Model XV; when I have both together I'll take a pic and post it.

High Standard. I have two Sport King .22 pistols, and have been using this Sentinel a lot lately.

I've long admired Astra and Webley. One Astra lives here, but owned a couple of Astras and have had experience shooting a few more. Have had a couple of Webleys for decades.

I got lucky and found a Mark VI .455 Webley revolver that is unshaved. Everybody who sees it thinks it is really cool. One of the judges in the next county is a friend of mine and he wants it.

These are without a doubt my favorite Budget gun of all time.
The design of these was brilliant. To make such a hardy gun, so cheaply, and so well... I have a hard time not scooping them up every time I happen across them.

For a number of years (decades) have focused on hunting handguns. Have a rather large herd of TC's both Contender and Encore. There are a few Remington XP-100's, Savage Strikers and of late a Savage 110 PCS. This year though a Smith 657 dropped the only deer thus far.
