Default Getting back into throwing knives

I got back into lock picking as mentioned in one of my previous threads. But I also rediscovered my love for knife throwing recently. I got into it when I was 17 and practiced all the way into my early 20s. I stopped and fell out of practice. I kept my knives but lost 1 last year. The other day I went on a walk. I took my revolver with me. I saw my old throwing knife and decided to take it with me knife with me. It’s my last knife. I found a tree and decided to practice for the first time in years. It took me a while to rediscover my grove. But I managed to to get the knife in 3 or 4 times in a roll before a miss or bounce between attempts. I can only do it with a full spin. I discovered years ago that I can’t do a half spin or no spin with my knives. My only remaining knife is eagle eye throwers. I had many other knives but everyone of them break when thrown. The way the eagle eye throwing knives are made it’s hard to do anything other than a full spin.
Something about my accident inspired me to better myself in every way.
Doing my research for better knives.

Several years ago, one of my sons gave me a set of Smith and Wesson throwing knives for Father's Day. We set up a target range by the wood shed. Be careful....it's addicting.

Shortly thereafter, we also added tomahawk throwing, setting up a target in the northeast pasture over by the mule barn.

Now, whenever the grandkids come up, they'll spend a couple hours either throwing knives or throwing tomahawks. As my twelve-year-old grandson told me, "We're preparing for the Zombie Apocalypse!"

The guy to talk to when it comes to knife throwing is Iggy. Maybe he'll chime in here. He really knows what he's doing when throwing a knife....and the knives he throws are huge!

Ironically we have had a couple of young men start up a business of Axe throwing. It is in a regular store front building downtown, and has become very popular. They do take targets and set up at functions.

Spyderco makes three different sized "Spyder Throwers."

Throwing Knives - Spyderco, Inc.

On a side note, years ago a couple of young ladies who worked at an outdoor shooting park started watching one of the other employees throw knives. They just had to try it and they became very good at it.

My digital camera at the time could shoot in a stop-motion mode, or video mode. I set the camera up behind the backstop and aimed it through a crack in the wood at the girls, or off at their side.

They and their friends could look at the pictures and watch the video in slo-mo to critique their technique.

Everyone got a good laugh at the faces they were making while throwing.

I booked marked that! Thank you.

And thank you all for commenting. I got into it when I was 17. I loved it. But fell out of practice. I decided to step up my game and get back into my old hobbies. I’m going to get back into shape to while I’m still young. I practice quick draw to. I might combine them later on.

First time I met our boy's bride to be, he asked us what we were talking about.
We replied that I should make her a target board for throwing new, but not sharp enough, surgical scalpels into as opposed to the trash/recycle can.
She's a DVM and loves operating.

I throw knives in the shop and backyard.
Never had one bounce all the way back to me... yet.
I did have three arrows hit the house, just slid over the top of the 12"x12" target, and had to duck as they covered the almost 20 yds right quick.
Lesson learned was not to pull too many on the #60 recurve after hours with the other bows.

Put some ebony slabs on these Hoffritz blades, back in the '70s, as per the owners request.

Good knife throwing scene in the Magnificent Seven.

The only knife throwing Ive done is with a Kbar at 8’-10’. We would throw them like darts. Betting of course, sometimes would go on for hours.

Knife throwing is fun. We throw knives in my barn all the time (along with shooting bows, throwing darts, and playing cards). We make up our own game to 21. Usually wake up the next morning with a sore throwing arm. All the knives pictured are pretty much junk. They throw Ok but nowhere close to a nice set of throwing knives.

I like those. I might find some vintage pair.

I didn’t think people threw Kbars. Wouldn’t that be difficult?

Broke a whole bunch over the years. That's what I have left. S&W, United Cutlery, Cold Steel, a few others that I can't recall the names of. All Chinese made garbage for the most part.

Loved it as a kid. It was the reason I wanted him to be James Bond so badly.

I understand the frustration. I can’t find a woman who is willing to let me shoot a apple off her head.

I see eBay has some vintage knives. Maybe I should give them a try.
