If I Sale 1911 Colt

Not a colt expert but I have a WWII Ithaca 1911A1 and a limited edition Colt 1943 1911A1 reproduction from 2002. I would say it would sale for at !east $1500+. Nice piece.

It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. I know, that's a hackneyed phrase but the only real way to know is run it up the flag pole to see if anyone salutes. Often times it isn't worth what you might ask for it. Colt gov't models are numerous on the auction sites, even the older ones. I would say $1200 without actually holding it in my hand. That's where I would start the bidding on an auction site. My reference is I've sold a few of those in the past two years. None of them were as old as yours but not 80's production either. They were both series 80 and barely used with the box and all the documents. If I were actually looking for one I might surprise you with a very generous offer.

Colt had some turbulent times in the 80's but you have one of the very best they ever made. Series 70 pre 1980. Nice pistol.

Yup, a solid $1500 in the condition it appears and with the box, original grips. There are a few 1911 aficianados here that also hang out at a popular 1911 forum that I'm sure would be happy to take that home :D

Hi, I looked up your profile, are you a WW2 Vet, or Korea? Thanks for your service on any level.

There are Colt 1911 variations that are designed to shoot better than the Government Model. That said, there is only one model I consider in a 1911, and that is the Govt model. The original.

To answer your value question, I would say 1600-1800 dollars.

If you list it for sale, I hope you offer it on the " Guns for sale " forum on this site.

Good heaven! Vrichard, admittedly this is off topic, but I hope someday soon you will take the time to write a summary of whatever length you care to make it of your WWII experiences and share it with us. I’m sure many of us here would be interested. Good luck with the sale of your .45, should you decide to sell it.

BTW, I have a WWII-vet friend who just celebrated his 97th birthday this month. His wartime duties were fairly mundane, in his view. I’ve encouraged him to also write some things down, but haven’t received a commitment.

Thanks for your service to our country. 🇺🇸

My dad (passed in 1989) was 1st infantry division in N. Africa and Sicily. He missed Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. 1942-1945. I believe he was in a headquarters or maintenance battalion. Probably why he came home. I know his MOS was a mess cook. I have a pistol he brought back as a reminder of the war. I've researched the company he was in at the end of the war and found nothing relevant. The supporting document where the CO signed off on private property is legitimate. Both are in my safe.

When I was following these an as new 60s Colt in the box with original grips could fetch $2500 on gunbroker and that was several years ago

I wouldn't sell it for less than $2500. Other than Military, Colt is the only real 1911 and pre 70 is a really REAL 1911. I think I'll watch the "for sale" site for a few weeks to see if you put it up for sale. Larry

It can't be many of those left around for sale in that condition and with the original box. I wouldn't sell it unless it was absolutely necessary. I would probably regret it very much afterwords. Considering the obscene pricing on vintage Colts of any kind in excellent condition these days, I would not take any less than $2000 for it, and would probably start at $2500. Don't let anyone low ball you on that one. Good luck.

I had one just like it.(Colt 1911 NIB made 1968 never shot outside the factory, all docs/and box)....Sold it 5yrs ago for $1,700.00...thought it was a fair price....................................M*

Since the plastic grips have been off the gun, they probably can't be put back on it. Those grips are notorious for shrinkage and warpage. The Sid bell grips are worth nothing to a collector. If the originals are not shrunk and warped and do fit back on then the gun with original (serial # in chalk on the bottom of the box)box and the papers from Colt would probably bring somewhere between $2200 to $2500 now. However, if the original grips are shrunken or warped then $1700 to $2000 tops. If the box serial doesn't match then deduct $200.
