Savage 1911

There was also an A. J. Savage Munitions Company of San Diego which was awarded a WWI production contract for M1911 pistols. It seems that they never got into production before the war ended, but there are some slides known which may (or may not) have been made by A. J. Savage. Apparently there was no relationship to Savage Arms Co. They also had a contract to produce .45 ACP ammunition, but it was of such poor quality that it was rejected by the government. I once saw a box of it.

I wonder if they are made 'in house' (Savage factory) or if Savage is having Standard Products /Galazan make them for Savage.

Guess it really doesn't matter.

Galazans has had a 30+ yr business relationship with Savage starting with a licensing agreement over the use off the A.H Fox name.

Galazans/ Connecticut Shotgun Mfg Co (CSMC) makes the new AH Fox and pays licensing agreement $$ for that name to Savage and has done so since the early 90's.
CSMC also make/made a 'new' Sterlingworth' SxS with the Savage/Fox name on it that Savage retailed exclusively a couple of yrs ago.

Galazan runs Standard Manufacturing as another sideline company.
Under that name and in the same mfg'r facility in NewBritain Ct, they mfgr their SAA revolvers, a Colt 1911 copy and several other kind of off the rail firearms like the dbl bbl pump riot shotgun.

That 1911 Colt copy that Standard Mfg makes and sells I suspect may be what Savage is now marketing as their 'Savage 1911' with some options and ornamental changes.

It's a quality piece if it is.
But I still prefer the orig ,,and the earlier the better.
The orig conservative look please..

Just my thoughts,,,and I may be wayyyy off the mark though.

Interesting, but in my opinion, once you start modifying the basic aesthetic appearance of a 1911 too much, you begin to miss the whole point of making a 1911 to begin with.

After all, if you build a premium 1911 that looks too much like a SIG P210 for example, then it begs the question; "Why not just buy a SIG P210?"

When you buy a 1911, you do so mostly just because you want a 1911, which includes its iconic appearance.

In my opinion, the Savage 1911 strays too far from the classic appearance of a 1911. I get that they wanted their 1911 to stand out by the giving it a unique aesthetic, but other companies have done a better job by simply making minor tweaks like the slide serrations, grips, controls, or rollmarks, yet retaining the overall style of a 1911.

Are they limiting production to .45 Auto, or is that just an opener and other calibers will come along once they establish their version of the 1911? Nice looking pistol, I'd like to see how much different/same they are to the original 1911 internally. Are these Series 70 or 80?

Great that they are getting into the 1911 business, but they should have started with a standard GI model at a reasonable price. I read on another forum that the list is $1500. I don't like the slide serrations; looks too much like a Taurus 1911 and the billboard on the side of the slide. But to each his own.

I wonder how it will pan out long term, Savage has been associated with "affordable" firearms for so long, I'm not how much demand there will be for a higher price 1911 with the Savage name on it. But I'm sure they have marketing people much more on top of these things than I am.

I looked on their site figuring I’d see if the information was buried anywhere.

Then I realized I’m not a fan of the looks at all and really didn’t care enough to spend any time digging for details about whether it has a firing pin safety or not and if so whether it’s trigger or grip safety activated.

Hard pass.

Ol John Moses B would be proud. Everybody and their cousins are making 1911's........They are more popular than ever before......re: Savage 1911. Too many(un-neccessary) grinding angle cuts on the slide. To me the slide looks like a ship....I like "em" plain.

who brought up that Standard mfg is making the Savage 1911?

Not into Standard mfg
