I've only tried it once, and it failed miserably, would not feed. Might have been the ammo, but I doubt it, 'cause that same ammo fed just fine from the stock 10-round mag.

As a young kid I got a 30 rd and 50 rd magazine like that. The 30 rd mag had no problem but that 50 rd had all kinds of problems. All I've seen are "banana mags" like the one pictured.

never in many 1000's of rounds had a problem with the Butler Creek mags, I use the Hot Lips ones.

Many, many, years ago....

when such things could be legally purchased in the GREAT STATE of NEW YORK...

I had a 50-round 10/22 mag that was made by a company called Mitchell.

It had a rubber "belt" inside that had grooves for the rounds. You took off a clear plastic cover, wound up the spring-loaded belt with a little tool, and inserted 50 rounds into the belt.

If memory serves me right, it worked "OK"...not great.

Of course, Ramline made the 30-round bananas.

Butler Creek also makes one with metal lips that works better for some folks. There are entirely metal mags that can be had. I forget who makes them (don't currently have a 10/22), but recall them being advertised in the pages of Small Arms Review. Check your local Barnes and Noble for a copy and peruse the ads. The all metal ones are a bit pricey - 30 or 40 bucks? - but were said to be worth it by some.

I don't remember what this one in the picture was call, is your "Hot Lips" mag different?

Oh, and from the link: "Quality costs money..." No kidding! That's one expensive .22 magazine at 75 bucks, but if its all that and a bag of chips, may be worth it.

(Maybe I just need to find & try another Butler Creek?)

Used to be able to buy the whole carbine for 75 bucks. I know, I'm old.......

Try an Eagle. I had a Ramline that was awful. It was a total waste of money.

The Butler Creek Steel Lips work great for me. I also picked up the speed loader because the 10/22 is a bullet hose.

The only brand I really recommend is Tactical
Innovations. Not cheap, but they are the best.
Those are the all metals ones, but they also
make a plastic body version too.
But actually, I prefer the stock factory mags.
I just clip them together for "flip-flop"
20 round mags.
Not the most capacity, but I never have mag
problems.
I see mixed reviews on the Butler creek mags
with the steel lips. Some have them work fine,
some have problems. Myself, if I was going to
buy plastic, I'd probably go for the TI's..
But if I were to do that, I'd go ahead and get
the all metal version. I just like em better..
But like I say, I like the factory mags.

Ruger is getting ready to introduce a new factory 20 round mag. Retail is $39.95, but they will be cheaper at the shows, I do believe.

+1. I have four TIs and once I adjusted the four setscrews that set the fit of the mag in the receiver, they have been 100% performers time after time. Well worth it.

I have had several and don't even remember what brand but I never trusted the plastic feed lips.
I also would recommend a 25 round mag over a 30 because it is more compact, looks better, and has greater reliability, at least for me.

I've had pretty good luck with Butler Creek's Hot Lips (plastic feed lips) 25 rounders. Not perfect, but hey, we're not talking life-and-death here. BiMart used to put them on sale for $12. I own 6 of them and one of the loaders.

That's my experience, too. I have one of each, and the steel lipped one works better. The plastic one doesn't fit easily through the stock.
