I picked up one of the recent flat tops in 44 Special a few years ago. It was in the local Cabelas gun library for a ridiculously low price. A new gun. I questioned the guy and he said it was a factory 2nd. We looked it over and yep, there was a small ding in the topstrap that had been blued over. I never heard of Ruger selling seconds, but I didn't complain and it went home with me. It's actually more accurate than any of my 24-3 Smiths. Yeah. I said that. Out loud. But it's true. Only complaint is that it likes to send the ejector rod housing down range if the screw gets loose. Not just the housing but the rod, the spring and the screw all take a trip down range. A little loctite would fix it, but I just try to remember to keep the screw tight. It's a good shooter and I really like the Bisley grip. Ruger knocked one out of the park with that gun.
