Default My New Glock 28 Range Report and Pic

Well, i know it makes no sense, but since i started back in 1996 and got my first Glock Annual i have longed for a Glock 28 .380.(and even the G25). I remember the disappointment when i found out that they were only available in Europe. Not anymore. My buddy at a local FFl texted me today and said they got a couple in. They are now made in GA so the import ban does not apply. Nobody knows if this will be a limited run or permanent production item so i went down and picked one up. I had heard the internet rumor that they might become available in the states so when i got the text the rumor was confirmed.
The power to size crowd will be indifferent, but I am a Glock fan and just like fun easy shooting guns. Enter the G28.
First off it is NOT blow back with a fixed barrel which for years folks seemed to think it was. With the exception of the funky barrel hood it looks identical to a G26 internally when the slide comes off.
Second, its a little lighter than a G26 according the specs although i have not weighed it.
Lastly, I put 50 rounds of Sig 95 grain FMJ, 20 rounds of underwood extreme penetrator 90 grain (which is my G42 carry ammo) and 20 rounds of Hornady 90 grain XTP hollow points. Perfect function and very accurate with all loads.
Its definitely over built for a .380 and i notice that the ejection is week with weaker ammo but way better with hotter stuff. I would have shot more but it was the only .380 I happened to have on hand.
Fun and real easy to shoot. It will give the new full size .380 line up (the EZ Shield, Beretta 80X, etc.. ) a run for the money if Glock keeps them in production.
The only issue was the mag was real hard to fill with 10 rounds. 9 was easy but the 10th not so much. I think that may be an issue because normal capacity is 15 in free states and when they went to 10 it probably needs to loosen up.
Any way it was a long wait but i really like it.

How does the recoil and the effort to rack the slide compare with the 26?

Default G28

I don't have a 26 right now so I can't do a side by side but from memory to the last time i owned one racking the slide feels about the same, and recoil is almost like a .22.

I have never seen a Glock 28. I knew they existed in Europe because police in some countries can't use a military round. Is it made in Smyrna GA just like the G42? I own a G42 that's now well broken in and shooting reliably with most ammo.

I'm a little bit confused by the appearance of it... Did they never update the design past Gen 3? I ask because if they're currently producing these in GA, then why are they Gen 3 pattern pistols?

Regardless, it's nice that they finally started making these in the USA, folks have been wanting them for years. The Gun Control Act should have been repeatedly years ago, along with the equally unconstitutional National Firearms Act.

While I’m not a .380 guy and don’t see myself picking up a 28, it always feels good to track down something we’ve longed for awhile. Congrats

15 rounds of .380 is interesting.

I'd like to handle one of these. I own one Glock , the G45, and it's great to shoot.

Not that I would buy the G28, but it's pretty cool they decided to make it here so it could be sold.

Glock is usually pretty insistent that reduced capacity magazines should not be used for serious purposes, so keep that in mind. Also, most 380s of which I am aware tend to prefer hotter ammo nd will function better with it; likely leading to the weak ejection you describe. My 42 was that way - took a few hundred rounds before it was completely reliable with anything other than ball.

Just looked at a video of the Glock 28 and I am not convinced that the front of the barrel hood locks up into the slide. It seems to be beveled so that it cannot lock. That said the mechanics are certainly not the "straight blowback" as we see in a PPK or Beretta 84/84. The barrel certainly moves and tilts like it does in the 9mm Glock 26. I wonder if Glock came up with an unlocked system with a moving barrel so they could use the same feed geometry.

As you might guess, guns with funky mechanics fascinate me.
